We need them to depend on us. Depending on our airspace and our land routes means they also keep India in check.

americans staying in afghanistan has all but bad for us.the country is inherently dependent on pakistan for practically everything.much of american aid there end up in pakistan economy with the huge trade deficit they have.
plus having a say in pentagon is vital for us.
