The US military covered up a series of airstrikes in 2019 that likely killed dozens of Syrian civilians during the campaign against Islamic State, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

The strikes in Baghuz, in Syria’s east, targeted a group of women and children huddled by a river, that had been identified as such by Air Force personnel monitoring the area. According to the report, personnel were shocked by the bombings and it was not immediately clear who had ordered them.

Some 80 people were killed in the bombings.

It later became clear that the strikes had been called in by a secretive special forces task force that was conducting ground operations in the area, and which often operated without updating other forces in the area.

The Times report, based on interviews with current and former officials with knowledge of the event, found that some personnel believed the strikes may have constituted war crimes. Despite efforts by some to see the incident properly investigated, it never was, with reports on the matter delayed and sanitized.

“Leadership just seemed so set on burying this. No one wanted anything to do with it,” Gene Tate, who worked on the case for the Defense Department’s inspector general’s office, told The Times. “It makes you lose faith in the system when people are trying to do what’s right but no one in positions of leadership wants to hear it.”

In an email sent to the Senate’s Armed Services Committee and obtained by The Times, an Air Force lawyer, Lt. Col. Dean W. Korsak, wrote that “senior ranking US military officials intentionally and systematically circumvented the deliberate strike process,” that personnel entered false log entries, “clearly seeking to cover up the incidents.

In response to The Times’ inquiries, the US military acknowledged that 80 people were killed and asserted that at least 16 of them were fighters. It said many others may have been combatants, as women and children under IS were sometimes involved in fighting.

The U.S. post-9/11 wars have forcibly displaced at least 38 million people in and from Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, the Philippines, Libya, and Syria. This number exceeds the total displaced by every war since 1900, except World War II.

At least 801,000 people have been killed by direct war violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Pakistan. The number of people who have been wounded or have fallen ill as a result of the conflicts is far higher, as is the number of civilians who have died indirectly as a result of the destruction of hospitals and infrastructure and environmental contamination, among other war-related problems.

These horrible pics are from the daily Russian airstrikes on civilians in Western Syria not the US one in Eastern Syria.
Apparently pointing out the Russians are doing this all the time is not in your best interest and you'd rather just blame the pics on Americans. Typical Chinese smokescreen FakeNews.

Claims differ, but hard facts remain, US 's hands are covered with Syrian civilians' blood. Do you want to deny it?

US is the beacon of human rights (Mike Pompeo).

Ironic considering who was the real causer of these pics.

I'm sure with all the airstrikes against ISIS far more than just this incident happened. Add that to the daily China-arms-supported Syrian (M9/M11 scud missiles) and Russian bombing of civilian targets and you have a horrible mess.

You can make wild claims but Chinese PLA is not there doing any killings, China's position is letting Syrian people solve their own problems, no foreign forces should be there, be it Americans or Russians.
Does US have the slightest respect to other countries' sovereignty at all? Do you feel any shame after just kicking open other countries' doors and doing the plundering and killing in their homes?

All these threads started by the Chinese on PDF about how the US is perpetually at war because we supply arms to conflicts yet you aren't going to count China selling missiles and their technology to Syria so they can blow up civilians.

We don't sell weapons to Syria. The Chinese do and Syria uses them.

BTW we were not fighting the Syrians we were fighting ISIS elements on the border of Iraq...and BTW so are the Iranians.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 10 towns in the Eastern Ghouta region outside Damascus were bombed on Tuesday. The activist-run Ghouta Media Center said at least two, Douma and Harasta, was struck by ground-to-ground missiles.

The Syrian Civil Defense search-and-rescue group, known as the White Helmets, which works in opposition areas, called it "another bloody day for civilians" in Eastern Ghouta.
Meanwhile, the lead investigator of a U.N.-mandated Commission of Inquiry on Syria said his team was looking into reports that bombs allegedly containing weaponized chlorine were used on two recent occasions, in the town of Saraqeb, in Idlib, and Douma, in Eastern Ghouta.
That NATO-linked Syrian Observatory for Human Rights ? That NATO-serving some UN commission for chemical weapons ? And most of all those Al Qaeda criminals called White Helmets ? The article is discredited right there. :)
