The United States may launch an attack on Iran this year from its military bases in Afghanistan, says Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, adding that such a move would disrupt the stability of the region.

Mottaki blamed the US for destabilising the situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan, saying the presence of US troops in the area poses a threat to Iran's security.

Speaking to a Pakistani media delegation in Teheran, he said, "An increase in the number of US troops in Afghanistan could create a new crisis for the whole region in 2010 and we are holding (US President) Barack Obama [ Images ] responsible for that crisis".

Responding to questions from the Pakistani journalists, Mottaki said Afghanistan has become more unsafe and problematic after US troops arrived in the region in October 2001.

"US forces are bombing wedding parties and killing innocents in Afghanistan," the Iranian foreign minister said. "They are not bothered with the fact that poppy production has reached over 8,000 tonnes a year despite their presence in Afghanistan -- it was only a few hundred tonnes in 2001. They cannot resolve problems; they can only increase problems."

The foreign minister claimed that Iran was well on the road to progress in spite of the stringent US-led sanctions imposed due to the country's refusal to disclose details about its nuclear programme.

Obama has sought international legislation to impose sanctions on non-Iranian companies that are involved in Iran's energy sector. If enacted, this legislation will force many foreign companies to halt their business dealings with Iran. It will particularly hit Pakistan and China which are aggressively promoting their interests in Iran.

Mottaki expressed concern about the poor law and order situation in the Pakistani and Iranian parts of Baluchistan. Jindullah, a terrorist outfit led by Abdul Malik Ragie, has been held responsible for bomb blasts and kidnappings in Iranian Baluchistan. This group has some safe havens in Pakistan, the foreign minister noted.

Iran has blamed Jindullah for carrying out a suicide attack in Sistan, Iran, that killed 42 people, including top officers of the country's elite Revolutionary Guard, last October.

"We expect Pakistan to either take action against this terrorist group as soon as possible or start a joint operation with us against them or allow us to take action against them in Pakistan," Mottaki said.

The minister added that Iran would not launch a unilateral operation in Pakistani Baluchistan without obtaining prior permission from Islamabad [ Images ]. He alleged that "some powers" are trying to create misunderstandings between Iran and Pakistan without clarifying their identity.

Mottaki also mentioned the kidnapping of Iranian diplomat Heshmatollah Attarzadeh who was abducted from Peshawar on November 14, 2008.

"The Iranian parliament has called me ten times to explain why Pakistan has failed to rescue the kidnapped diplomat; why Pakistan has failed to destroy Jindullah's hideouts in Baluchistan," Mottaki said.

"I am trying my best to downplay the tension (between the two nations) because it will benefit only our common enemies," he added.

The minister stressed that ensuring stability in the Iranian and Pakistani sections of Baluchistan was a pre-requisite to ensure the success of the ambitious gas pipeline project visualised between India [ Images ], Iran and Pakistan.

He claimed that Iran was ready to start the pipeline project. Though Pakistan and Iran have finalised their aspects of the $7 billion project, India still needs some more time to make up its mind, he said.

"We can start the gas pipeline without India," Mottaki declared and blamed the US for trying to sabotage the enterprise.

Sounding a note of caution about India, Mottaki said, "The growing relations between the US and India should not affect the relations India has with other countries in the region."

He expressed confidence that Pakistan, a key US ally, would not hesitate to commence the project with Iran despite American pressure.

"We must not allow any third country to interfere in the bilateral relations of Iran and Pakistan," Mottaki said.

In a statement bound to make New Delhi [ Images ] wary, the minister declared, "China might join the pipeline project with Iran and Pakistan very soon."

Mottaki pointed out that Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari [ Images ] has visited Iran twice in the last 20 months. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has also visited Pakistan, is planning another visit.

"We will sign new agreements for cooperation in defence, intelligence cooperation, trade and commerce during the Iranian president's visit to Pakistan," the minister added.

I still don't think that is gonna happen.
Unless China, Russia and the US had already negotiated, and come to an agreement.
Or else, I don't think China nor Russia will allow that to happen.

lol "says iranian minister"

Shouldn't be taken as fact.

=xdrive;656035]lol "says iranian minister"

Or the Fact that Iranian Minister is talking to pakistani Media and its being published by Indian website well known for its propogenda would that be clue number 1 who is creating the news.

Shouldn't be taken as fact

And we all no about westren diplomats telling nothing but the truth :rofl:

The intentions of USA in Asia is suspicious :-

*First they attacked Afghanistan on the name of terrerism (justisable bcoz of internal pressure on USA due to 9/11)

*They they attacked Iraq on the name of Chemical Weapons & were failed to find any....They ruined the Iraq.....on the name of fight on terrorism...

*USA has the bad eye on the North Korea.....& had placed its Nuclear Missiles target on North Korea (violation of NTP)

*Now they placed the nuclear missile target on Iran .... & is threating it....Ahmadinejad is providing the solid base to the Iran ...& is not ready to compromise the Iran interest in the hand of USA

***I think USA has the no right to check other nation Nuclear programme since it itself is maintaining the large arsenal of nuclear bombs....

*USA & other nation has cleverly created the NTP treaty....
Every country has to give 3 month pre-notice before leaving the treaty...
& when some country gives the notice they internationally creates so much pressure that they are forced to join it again.......

INDIA & PAKISTAN thankfully never signed this treaty

USA also have is bad attention in south asia
& is increasing it influence on south asia....by providing dollar($$$$$$) to pakistan & Uranium to India....

in tabnak.ir in persian , not reformist but conservative website
it is relating what Mottaki said about the three last earthquakes , very minor around Tehran's
He said that the US navals were experimenting create earthquakes in Iran

You remember that already the president of Venezuela said it too

Mesbah Yazdi said the jews are the causes of all pain on earth

All this is not taken in any foreign media :) so if the media were good to do their job bu believe me it's international problem
that the media are very good to copy each other and not got into the subject. :pop:

*First they attacked Afghanistan on the name of terrerism (justisable bcoz of internal pressure on USA due to 9/11)

Er.? In the name of terrorism ? Don't you mean in the name of fighting against Terrorism and bringing to justice an organization that has killed 3000 people in the greatest city in the world ?? The last time America was attacked in such a fashion, an empire was obliterated and more than a quarter of a million people were vaporized into dust under two nuclear devices. After 9/11 the USA's response has been quite tame considering!

*They they attacked Iraq on the name of Chemical Weapons & were failed to find any....They ruined the Iraq.....on the name of fight on terrorism...
Again, totally untrue. Iraq today is on the path towards forming a functioning democracy. The Kurdish people who for decades have been persecuted under Saddam and the Bathists, today, have a chance to rebuild and have hope for their future again. The Iraqi Shia's - the majority in Iraq!- have been freed from living as second class citizens under the Sunni rule and today have the opportunity to forge a more secure future for themselves and the region as a whole.
By all measures, Iraqis today are happier and have more hope for their futures than they ever did under Saddam, despite the high levels of violence. The only people who are "upset" in Iraq are the Bathists and their supporters who are now out of power and can't go back to their days of torture and violent intimidation.
*USA has the bad eye on the North Korea.....& had placed its Nuclear Missiles target on North Korea (violation of NTP)
Firstly, it is the NPT (not the NTP !) and secondly the above argument is a total lie!
The US has no intention of nuking North Korea and has no missiles pointed towards NK.
The main reason for US pressure against North Korea is due to the fact that it conducted a covert nuclear enrichment program despite being a signatory to the NPT and subsequently declared that it was withdrawing from the treaty after the US and Japan confronted it with evidence of duplicity. The main reason the US and its allies in the region are concerned about the North Korea is because its leaders frequently threaten US allies in the region and actively seek to distribute and disseminate nuclear technology and know how which has the potential to help terrorists get their hands on nuclear weapons or material!
You in India should be equally concerned about this aspect as well as it affects you directly!
*Now they placed the nuclear missile target on Iran .... & is threating it....Ahmadinejad is providing the solid base to the Iran ...& is not ready to compromise the Iran interest in the hand of USA
Iranian leaders have openly called for the destruction of the nation of Israel, an important ally of the US in the region. Iran is still a signatory to the NPT and thus is obligated to cease any activities pursuing nuclear weapons technology! However, Iran has continued to do so and this is the sole reason that the US and Europe want to apply sanctions on Iran for its breach !

There is nothing great or heroic about lying and cheating the world to have your way. When a nation signs a treaty it is obligated to abide by its treaties otherwise such a nation cannot be trusted as is considered a rouge state that should be punished! This is why Iran today faces limited sanctions!

***I think USA has the no right to check other nation Nuclear programme since it itself is maintaining the large arsenal of nuclear bombs....
The US has every right to check other nations nuclear programs, especially when these "other" nations have pledged not to develop nuclear weapons !
The use of nuclear weapons affects all of humanity and as such nations that pursue nuclear weapons recklessly without proper safeguards as to the risks of proliferation and nuclear fallout need to be curtailed as it is contrary to the common will of the International community as a whole!(not just the US)
*USA & other nation has cleverly created the NTP treaty....
INDIA & PAKISTAN thankfully never signed this treaty
The US and other nations created the NPT but nobody was compelled to sign the treaty under the threat of force! Iran, North Korea etc signed the treaty of their own free will!
India and Pakistan have been obstinate in the pursuit of nuclear weapons and this is only made it harder for them to reintegrate into the international community and further the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
USA also have is bad attention in south asia
& is increasing it influence on south asia....by providing dollar($$$$$$) to pakistan & Uranium to India....

The US was made to understand that India WANTED to join the international community in the nuclear trade! That is a favor done to the Indian people to sell them Uranium despite them not being signatories to the NPT.
Pakistan on the other hand is presently facing acute economic difficulties and American money would definitely help them stabilize their country and sustain anti-terrorism operations that affect the security of the whole of South Asia.
How can either of these be considered "bad attention" ??

@Gideon
have u eva been too iraq?

Do you know? i dont want to classify people but Gideon is a jewish name :) so i dont expect you to be objective in international political affairs. its really strange that you americans and israelis dont have the sense of shame. You say you bring democracy to iraq but there are 2 million widows there. Millions of people died, they say saddam was better... you mention about the kurd overlords. They were already free since 1991 and Turkey helped them a lot.
You invaded afghanistan in the name of war against terror and to bring democracy to country... but nothing has changed+ You dont respect the democratic decisions of people of Gaza. You kill them slowly... You force them to change their decision by starving them. and Gaza is an open air jail in these days.
Are you really honest and sincere with your intentions? certainly no...
So By what right and upon what authority you can come here and intend to sell us your democratic(??) lies? Do yourself really believe in the things you tell?

Democracy, human rights, freedom to iraq:blah::blah:

Me too

I can not remember how many times we have heard about this "nuke facility assault plan"

We have the saying "the dog which barks a lot will not bite you"
US == The Dog

for your comment
"Unless China, Russia and the US had already negotiated, and come to an agreement."
I agree but I want to add Europe as another important party. the other three parties must all be quiet before US dears to carry out the "Action in their mouth"
