US Launches Cyberstrikes to disable Iran’s missile systems

As an expert I'm telling you, this news is pure B.S and propaganda. It's as much absurd as the claims of a trojan in RQ170 system.

This news just shows the level of ignorance of it's publishers, rather than showing U.S cyber capabilities.

To make it clear, it's like somebody claims he can turn off your car remotely using cyber means, and your car is an old analog system.

My own emotions have still been running high even since RQ-4As destruction but I do believe there's some credence to the story but Iran won't reveal if it happened or the extent of the damage at all for obvious reasons.

If it did happen then it's another learning lesson for Iran amongst the litany of others the nation has gone through these past 41 years.

Trump needs to somehow look like he got a win in someway.

Offensive cyber strikes against Iran reportedly disabled its computer systems that control rocker and missile launches on Thursday night when the military attack was called off by President Donald Trump.
President Trump approved the cyber offensive against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Washington Post reported citing people familiar with the matter. Although the attack came after Iran had shot down an American surveillance drone, it had been reportedly months in the making. The strike was conducted by US Cyber Command in coordination with Central Command that is charge of US military activity in the Middle East.

A week before the attack John Bolton, a hawkish presidential adviser and arguably the major cheerleader of the feud with Iran, revealed that US is ramping up offensive cyber operations against its adversaries. The list included the usual suspects of Russia, Iran, China and North Korea.

The cyber attack reportedly crippled to Iran’s military command and control systems, although there were no comments from Tehran either confirming or denying it. The White House also warned about possible cyber-attacks in retaliation. US media have reported that Iranian hackers are threatening US computer systems this week citing companies that had been previously warning about ubiquitous Russian hackers.

Trump told on Friday that he called off a planned military strike against Iranian targets as it could have brought 150 casualties. The US President threatened Tehran with more crippling sanctions saying it was not about oil, but to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. Top Washington officials say the military strike is still on the table, yet they are for talks or a deal if Tehran behaves the way US wants.

But this is something highly unlikely to happen.

"Regardless of any decision they (U.S. officials) make... we will not allow any of Iran's borders to be violated. Iran will firmly confront any aggression or threat by America," Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday.

The US crippled Iranian command and control systems which has a far greater effect on military operations than downing a single ISR drone. This is the your "proportionate response."
lol usa making a face saving excuse .

only way to seeif this operation is a success or not is to go at war :) from where usa chickened out.

I assume that the Iranian computers have no internet connection. So, how are they attacking the Iranian computers exactly? Do they use spies to infiltrate the Iranian IT?
Radar used different wavelength to track things....they can use different instruments to cause interference and diffraction of these wavelengths so that these RADARs do not operate properly....

The US can even, apparently, use power lines to "hack" certain equipment. Irrespective of the internet.

We had 7 OS's based on linux but sadly nobody supported them and at the end they become abandoned .and it happened in last 10-12 year . the lack of interest in these matter from current and previous government is somehow worrying .

Look up stuxnet. It was a brilliant attack worm that spread infections over USBs silently until it found a connection to a particular siemens device that the attacker knew controlled Iran's centrifuges. State-level cyberattacks are no joke.

What I doubt is that Iran was sitting around waiting for the next cyberattack after the devastation stuxnet caused it. They have likely put in very strict protocols and upgraded their infrastructure to prevent cyberattacks.

Now using Windows isn’t abnormal per se, even US military does it. However, using it in sensitive command and control areas and using an OS that is developed by your “enemy” is probably not smart.

I don’t think if roles were reserved the US would be using Iranian OS in sensitive military areas.

I am not computer specialist but as far as I know many many istruction sets are included in processors for different apps , applications and operating systems. Pentagon closely work with Intel and other US tech farms and software farms . So not only software of hostile country but also using their hardware is not safe .

This is the most stupid thing I’ve read in a while. You can’t just cyber attack a closed system like the AD CC of ANY given country. The best you could wish for is a usb-like-spread and that can't be initiated in real time and needs months or years of slow spread til finding target.

ALSO, stuxnet was possible since the companies (German origin I think) that sold critical component to Iran which was used in the Enrichment plants, had cooperated with US and Israel and shared critical info on how the component could be programmed to failure. Basically, the virus stayed idle in all computers that did not contain a specific set of attributes, but as soon as it has spread to target and the correct attributed where identified, then the virus ran a pre-set script that amongst others increased the rpm of centrifuges to failure.

In order for US to make another cyber attack on Iranian AD, then it needs to have 100% know how on the system decomposition, both on hardware and software level (Not possible!). This is needed just to be able design a stuxnet like virus. THEN they need to plant it in the AD system. HOW the hell are they going to do that? Give a usb stick to an IRGC officer the day before the attack? COME ON, give me a break!
