US-India defence cooperation to be enhanced

In a joint statement issued after the first US-India Strategic Dialogue here, Secretary Hillary Clinton and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna expressed satisfaction with the strengthening of defense cooperation in recent years and stressed that security dialogues, service-level exchanges, and trade and technology transfer and collaboration on mutually determined terms were an intrinsic part of the strategic partnership and should be further strengthened.

The statement further said that both welcomed the regular engagement of Armed Forces of both countries, including through conduct of joint military exercises.

They recognized the scope for enhancement of defense trade between both countries to the mutual benefit of both sides.

Both countries pledged to continue to work together on areas of mutual interest including maritime security, counter-piracy, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and response.

Do you mean like how USA-Pakistan "military alliance" is enhanced?! If so, expect USA to put soldiers on Indian land and use bombs against Indian "insurgents".

Are you serious? Are you being sarcastic or just incredibly niave? Do you really think for a second that Pakistan would hesitate on using their F-16s which they were GIFTED against the Indians in a tine of war? No, not for a moment. F-16s meant for "counter-insurgency", yeah right what good is a multi-million dollar aircraft travelling at 2 times the speed of sound any good at that. The only. Reason the US GAVE the Pakistanis the jets as to keep them sweet and to stop them going into a tantrum, it was a means to controll Pakistan. Pakistani F-16s flew CAPs near the LoC during the Kargil war ready to shoot any Indian aircraft. The UN will do nothing because there is nothing to do anything about, India LEGITIMATLEY buying weapons with their OWN well earned money from the US breaks no laws whatsoever. However Pakistan using AID from US to buy weapons to be used against India now that is somthing INDIA should complain to he UN about. The fact that Pakistan is still so India oriented shows how backwards they still are, India has moved on they relise the insignificance of Pakistan in the future and can see they need to bild their economy and defence forces and not get into this PATHETIC squabaling with Pakistan. Do you see how all the antagonising statements are made by the Pakistans, overcompansating don't you think?

I am not comfertable with the defence cooperation with US. they look to safeguard their interests only let it be at the cost of a Allied country.

if we really need the colaboration, the product should be produced in India with a total technology transfer. also close to 90% of the raw material should be sourced for India itself........
