US fleet can be destroyed with one missile, says Iranian cleric

A senior Iranian cleric said in a Friday prayers sermon that the United States' navy fleet could be “destroyed with one missile”, as a US aircraft carrier headed to the Gulf, the semi-official news agency ISNA reported.

The carrier Abraham Lincoln, deployed by President Donald Trump's administration to the Middle East as a warning to Iran, passed through Egypts Suez Canal on Thursday, the Suez Canal Authority said.

“Ayatollah Yousef Tabatabai-Nejad,... referring to the Abraham Lincoln warship heading to the Gulf, said: 'Their billion (dollar) fleet can be destroyed with one missile'," ISNA reported from the central city of Isfahan.

Carrier group can be killed by missiles. But since UA has military bases on land near Iran, it is impossible for iran to win

Yes. Interesting question. Would one Ayatullah be sufficient to destroy the carrier or more would be needed? We may spare some of our Mullahs, for the purpose, as well. First consignment of Mullah missiles may contain Maulvi Diesel.

I'm sure no single Noor or Qadr or Hoot can sink a carrier or even cruiser .

By the way the news is honestly not News worthy . some one said one thing while meant something else. He was not meant a single missile but a single type of missile and he said it in Friday prayer and it was only a figure of speech.

Actually he is not "wrong". Iran has MRBM/IRBM with very large warheads which contain cluster warheads. These clusters can be spreads over a very wide area and could in theory, wipe out the surface of such combat fleets and take them out of service. They would not "destroy" the fleet, but why do you need to?
