US bombing Syria to wrest control of oil: Kucinich
Dennis J. Kucinich
Dennis J. Kucinich, former congressman and two-time US presidential candidate, says a primary reason behind the US bombing campaign in Syria is to “wrest control” of the oil fields in the conflict-ravaged country.
The United States has launched airstrikes on the ISIL terrorist group, also known as ISIS, “to wrest control of the oil from ISIS which gained its foothold directly in the region through the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Jordan funding and arming ISIS' predecessors in Syria,” Kucinich wrote in an article published by The Huffington Post.
The former Representative from Ohio criticized the “bankruptcy” of the Obama administration’s foreign policy which is “funding groups that turn on the US again and again.”
At the root of this foreign policy, Kucinich explained, was “a neo-con fueled cycle of profits for war makers and destruction of ever-shifting ‘enemies’.”
He emphasized that the brutal ISIL militancy, roaming Iraq and Syria, was born out of the US-led “Frankenstein-like experiment” of training and arming the alleged “moderate” opposition in Syria.
The ISIL terrorist organization and the United States have a “curious relationship” and benefit from pursuing
“some of the same events” including “regime change in Syria” and “arming the Kurds so they can separate from Iraq,” Kucinich pointed out.
In addition to the ongoing air raids, the Obama administration has tasked the Pentagon and the CIA with arming and equipping the “moderate” Syrian insurgents to lead the ground war against both ISIL and the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
“This attack on Syria, under the guise of striking ISIS, is by definition, a war of aggression. It is a violation of international law. It could lead to crimes against humanity and the deaths of untold numbers of innocent civilians. No amount of public relations or smooth talking can change that,” Kucinich stated.
On Monday, the Pentagon announced that the US and its allies began bombing ISIL in Syria. Fighter jets from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates took part in the airstrikes.
US military aircraft targeted oil refineries and fields used by the ISIL terrorists in Syria, killing 19 people overnight and early Thursday.
The US military has conducted scores of airstrikes against ISIL targets in Iraq since mid-August.
