US backs China & Russia, blow to Indian UNSC dream

Look my friend, it doesn't matter what yourself or the Indian people think. What matters is what the P5 think collectively. They just don't want to know.

You right so far but I do think sometimes with all these incidents happening in SCS and Ukraine why does India wants to be in UNSC anyway cause lets be fair one can't get an entry in this prestigious group without doing favors to these countries and right now it could only mean is to join sides Russia-China or US-Japan and its a bad time to be involved in it .

.
There is no reason for other countries to deny a seat in UNSC, but China has. China sees India as its rival.

But I guess a lot depend on how India evolve economically for the other countries to take India's aspiration seriously. It will be hard to deny a seat to India that is economically a superpower.

There is a reason, it's called "elitism". They are the world's leading countries and they want to keep it that way. They don't need to give a reason, their subtlety speaks volumes.
It's not about the economy either. Look at Russia.

.
There are countries like Germany, Japan etc which are economically quite well placed, but don't have a permanent seat in UNSC.
I think it is a valid question to be asked to these permanent members, as to what are the criteria as per them to be added to this group? Economic indicators? Population?Military? Any other tangible factors?

Economically Germany and Japan cannot dwarf US or China because they don't have the demographics, but India with its continent sized population can over take US and may be China economically in this century.

.
Nobody could do anything to Russia not because it is in P5, but it is militarily powerful for someone take on with out getting damaged in the process.Even if India takes over Maldives, no one can take on India except make some noise. May be some sanctions.
India went for bollywood, cricket, stock markets.

China went for military developments.

The criteria to be a member of the P5, is to have been one of the "major independent powers" on the allied side of WW2.

India did not even exist back then, the subcontinent was just a part of Britain.

And Britain already had veto power. Why give veto power to another part of Britain?

Good post, and I agree. India has done a good job of making itself an important country. It should just carry on. This P5 business is a major distraction.

I don't understand why some Indian members were serious about a UNSC seat. This is an elitist club and there will never be room for anyone else, be it Brazil, India, Germany, Japan, Mongolia, Sweden and so on.

well, unlike you guys,we're optimist.we'll be rather on the side of "Struggling for a seat in UNSC" than opposing it(Coffee Club LOL).. :P

Actually, they can't block this motion forever,as they can't ignore G-4.also,the motion is not exactly G-4's,it was about reform of UNSC,which is more than urgent.

My question is how long their elitism remain?. There are two areas that east lags behind west: technology and economics. What happens if east catches west in these areas. Can their elitism remain? I already see east progressing in both these areas much faster than the west

Major Independent Powers??I thought CCP always said "China was under Capitalist Occupation under Kuomintang"..:rofl:

if someone truly fought against Japan,it was Kuomintang.World should've awarded Taiwan that status, why give another part of "Kuomintang China"??

also,if I remember properly,France was under Nazi occupation for most of the time during WW-II.they in fact committed vicious crimes under occupation and fought against Allies.Just because General De Gaulle was in London and Algeria, you can't claim them "Independent",are you?True representation of France during that time was Vichy France.Hell,Indian Soldiers fought 50 times more for allies than what France and China did.

It's an exclusive table reserved (perhaps rightly so) for the winners of WW2, it's the post great war world order. That's why no Germany, Japan etc

and it's also pretty useless, the big boys will do as they please and keep vetoing each other but in the end do what they want.. the US bombs whoever it wants to, Russia is involved in Ukraine and the Chinese keep stealing bits of clay and water from everyone around them :partay:

2 Permanent members of UNSC which are France and Britian are part of EU and making Germany Permanent members of UNSC would create more distrust for the all nations.

Japan and India will get backing of majority of countries for Permanent member seat in UNSC.

No...most of the east including India and China are spending huge money on military modernization. India's defence expenditure went from $7 billion just 10 years ago to $50 billion, and plan to spend $100 billion in new acquisition in next 7 years.

I agree with you big powers aren't giving up their position to anyone else in the near future

Japan is an excuse China will use to deny India the high table.

Uh, they did give the seat to the ROC (Taiwan)?

But the seat belongs to a "country", not a government. So when the PRC was recognized as the official representative of China (in the 1970's) the seat passed to us. The same way the seat of the Soviet Union passed to the Russian Federation. Different government, same country.

And again, India did not even exist back then. They weren't going to give 2 vetoes to Britain.
