US asks Pakistan to eliminate groups that attack India

Washington, May 14 (PTI) The United States today said that it is "important" for Pakistan to eliminate the groups that carry out terror attacks against India.

"It is important for Pakistan to stop the groups that carry out terrorism in India. Absolutely," Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher told a group of South Asian journalists here.

Boucher's remark comes at a time when Obama Administration is reluctant to support a Congressional legislation which puts this as a condition in lieu of the US aid to Islamabad.


"We accept that we, the Congress and actually the Pakistani government have very similar goals... We do not want restrictions to make it impossible to achieve the goals that we all share," Boucher replied when asked about such legislation in the US House of Representatives, which calls for such a condition on Pakistan in lieu of tripling the non-military aid to Pakistan.

"There has never been any question in our mind that threat to Pakistan from terrorism, comes not just from groups fighting in Afghanistan and the groups that are up in the tribal areas. The groups are based in Pakistan that attack India presents a danger to Pakistan as well," the outgoing diplomat argued. PTI

There is no fool proof guarantee that any nation can provide, and the fact that an attack like Mumbai is the exception instead of the norm indicates how much 'stopping' Pakistan has done.

After the parliament attacks, this was the first major attack by the LeT - the rest you can blame on your home grown groups. Fix your problems yourself instead of blaming Pakistan.

And the IOK CM's comments on Pakistan's cooperation on Kashmir, along with the IA's own analysis that infiltration is marginal in IOK (along with an extremely small number of active insurgents) speak volumes about Pakistan 'stopping' such groups.

After the parliament attacks, this was the first major attack by the LeT - the rest you can blame on your home grown groups. Fix your problems yourself instead of blaming Pakistan

BS, all the terrorist attcks mentioned above were carried out by LeT/ JeM. The only domestic terror incident was Malegaon Blast. Everything other than that, is fascination of Pakistani Media. Look up an independent source. Dont live in denial. Nothing has happened to make Pakistan "think different without India". Pakistan still sympathises with terrorists.

U.S. asks Pakistan to eliminate militant groups that attack India

(RTTNews) - In the most explicit demand from Washington supporting India's cause since the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, the United States alerted Pakistan's government that it eliminate those groups that carried out terror attacks on India.

"It is important for Pakistan to stop the groups that carry out terrorism in India, absolutely," said Richard Boucher, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia.

Addressing South Asian journalists Thursday in Washington, he said "threat to Pakistan from terrorism comes not just from groups fighting in Afghanistan and the groups that are up in the tribal areas. The groups that attack India present a danger to Pakistan as well."

He observed that the way such terrorist groups were carrying out attacks endangered Pakistan and its relations with India.

However, Boucher indicated that the Obama Administration was not favoring a Congressional legislation that would relate U.S. aid to Pakistan with the elimination of terrorist attacks originating from that country on India.

"We do not want restrictions to make it impossible to achieve the goals that we all share," he added.

U.S. House of Representatives recently called for such a condition on Pakistan for tripling the non-military aid to Pakistan.

The recently-concluded tri-lateral summit, involving the U.S., Afghanistan and Pakistan, led to a commitment on the part of the leaders of the neighboring South Asian countries to stop terrorism in the region, the U.S. diplomat added.
