What's new

Featured United States has secretly built and tested a prototype of a potentially sixth generation fighter jet.

I am not but I am saying that the inevitable breakthroughs/progress in manufacturing techniques does not imply at all that aircraft production rates can reach World War II level rates simply based on how complex modern day aircrafts are versus aircrafts made decades ago. Please quote the relevant part of the DoD statement which said this, since I could not find it.

But for the same price as a single variant of a digitally manufactured fighter produced with a 30-year life cycle, the Air Force could buy a new fighter every eight years and replace them after 16 years — before the plane reaches the 3,500 flight-hour mark here it starts needing heavy overhauls and expensive modifications to extend its service life.”

What exactly does digital manufacturing mean?

Dont get your hope high, check your airforce's desribation on NGAD, it is a large platform consist of many nodes, including UAVs and such, and it will evolved every 5 years or so.

Its highly likely the thing you just flied is just an initial stage UAV demonstrators, that's why no pictures no videos, nothing to show.

In general you country is a showboat, and your culture appreciated loudmouths, so save for a few "black" project which you may remain quiet, you tend to show off anything even if it just looks "fancy" as soon as possible.

Since obviously in this case it is not a "black" project (otherwise your airforce would not jumping up and down announcing it now), so the most likely conclusion is you get nothing to show off this time.

America does not jump up and down. It gets stuff done. Hence why it is the greatest technological super power the world has ever seen. Please don’t belittle or talk down America. You have no idea what you are talking about.

I tell what is trolling:

Trolling is something like that:

Just some announcement on some believed to be super-advanced prototype China has flight for many times, like this one:

Which is merely a tech demonstrator at the moment , and without any details, or tech specs or even a blur picture, but already self-proclaimed as world leader and decades ahead the nearest competitors.

Guess what, thats exactly what happened now.

Envy? no, annoyed? sure
I glimpsed through the video and saw nothing credible. Do you have an official statement from AVIC or any other official sources to back up what you said regarding a Chinese 6th gen demonstrator being flown before the American one?
Americans need to get back to being confident.Don't be like an Indian . Don't be afraid, you are the most advanced country in the field of aviation. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
Actually I think the US does it best in terms of publicity of its weapon systems. It does not spew complete BS/fake news like the Indians and is not secretive like the Chinese or the former USSR.

What on earth are you babbling about? The American aviation industry have built the most iconic aircraft in history. The US has gotten it done time and again.

Meanwhile, China has contributed next to nothing in the aviation industry and rides the coattails of the West. Stop embarrassing yourself. You sound like an envious rube.

I must be stupid as well, because I can't understand your point. The US is stupid because it has progressed its design and manufacturing technology?

This thread has predictably attracted a lot of churlish and envious trolling. Can we have some discussion on something worthwhile reading such as the technical/engineering aspects of this announcements?
He mesns US is stupid because it invests in path breaking R&d and makes stuff from the ground up.
They are not intelligent like the Chinese who steal and hack their way to superior copies, saving on money, time and effort . Wonder when a reliable Chinese engine will see the light of day ? Guess copying also has its limits.

Just as the Chinese thought they were catching up...
The Americans pulled their Ace, wonder how long before the millennials start tweeting abt how the money could have been spent elsewhere and how capitalism is garbage and Sweden is socialist.

One of the questions is what engine is powering this demonstrator? I presume it's probably some F135PW-100 variant with its thrust scaled up to maybe 200 kN (around a 10 kN increase) since the adaptive cycle engine has just started conducting ground tests. But since this demonstrator arrived quite before our expectations, I surmise the prototypes will also be powered by the F135 as opposed to the adaptive cycle engine, with initial production units also being the case.

The China Vs American argument needs to stop immediately. Let's carry on with discussion on the topic at hand.

On topic: Is it a loyal wingman next gen or manned A/C? Something seems confusing because the latest news suggests that loyal wingman A/C been going through engine testing while USAF claims to built & flown one of the future A/C.

There is no doubt they are shrinking the gap very fast ... they plan on inducting their 6th gen fighter before 2035 too. I am sure their prototype will take long to show up after the first US prototype is unveiled, which is why the US must really prioritize the 6th gen fighter development. Hopefully there is not going to be a repeat of the F-35s massive developmental delays and budgetary explosions, because now the US cannot afford someone like China is not far behind (think about how far behind other countries were during the F-35 development).

It is manned. I don't think there are any serious plans yet to turn the 6th gen fighter into unmanned aircraft.
