UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka has been officially adopted by the council, with 25 members voting for the motion, and 13 voting against it. There are eight abstentions.

Resolution against Sri Lanka passed, India votes in favour

New Delhi: The US-sponsored resolution on Sri Lankan war crimes was adopted at UNHRC on Thursday after 25 nations including India favoured it against Lanka on Thursday.

India voted in favour of US-sponsored UNHRC resolution against Sri Lanka on human rights, reports said.

However, 13 countries including Pakistan, Venezuela and Thailand voted for Sri Lanka against US-sponsored resolution that sought to "discredit" and "single out" the country over alleged human rights violations.

India at UNHRC on Thursday demanded a speedy rehabilitation of displaced people in Sri Lanka as it called for independent probe of human rights violations.

According to reports, Indian representative at UNHRC said: "We encourage Sri Lanka to expedite the process of broad- based, inclusive and meaningful reconciliation. We note Sri Lanka's invitation to UN Human Rights Commissioner; we urge her to undertake it as early as possible: India at UNHRC.

India added "Resolution will negatively impact reconciliation process."

Earlier, Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid had announced that India will vote against Sri Lanka and for the US-backed resolution.

Welcoming the announcement by the Lankan government to hold elections to the Provincial Council in the Northern Province in September 2013, the draft resolution now calls upon Colombo to fulfill its public commitments, including on the devolution of political authority.

The DMK earns brownie points in TN ahead of the National Elections, with time they shall re join the UPA Govt. Till then in response to this vote by the GOI the UPA shall get support from ' outside' so the Govt remains.

To keep the pressure on DMK the CBI ' raided' some honchos . Theyshall fall in line soon.

Soon they shall all live happily ever after.

Nothing will happen as for the political parties including the tamil parties, Lankan issue is not a significant one. Anyway the resolution itself is diluted. But Congress has already started its game of survival - it raided the Karuna's son's house who was seen as someone who was behind the DMK withdrawal from the government.

And Mr. expert on TN - care to say how many local Tamilnadu residents want independent country? There were lots of threads on tamil issue floating around and many tamil members were contributing to these threads. How many of them were supporting independent TN?
