UAE Armed Forces To Upgrade French-built Mirage 2000-9 Fighter Aircraft

M2K-9 upgrade - Multi million dollar contracts, do not happen at the drop of a dime, months, even years of planning and negotiations go into it. The Blk60 upgrade is out there, for everyone to see as an example.

Rafale - Did not come up as Dassault and UAEAF are working on it.
Exactly my point..we've heard a lot about the F-16 Blk 60 upgrade, but nothing about the 2K upgrade till these news!?

UAE to upgrade @Dassault_OnAir Mirage 2000-9 fighters to keep them viable for another 10 years..

2027-8.. does it ring a bell about the availability of the Rafale F4..?

Lets see who can figure out, what Rafale std these M2K-9's will be upgraded to.

The upgrade will include:

- A new engine based on the M53-PX3 increasing the thrust to 22,640 lb + new internal parts for longer lifespan and periodic maintenance and double readiness on the wing + better cooling and lower fuel consumption + acceleration and weight ratio for better propulsion.

- AESA radar

- Integration of MICA NG + METEOR missiles

- Integration of the TALIOS pods.

- Integration of AASM + A number of new ammunition with different ranges and weights.

- A new central computer + data link and satellites communication.

In general, something close to this:

Blk60 Upgrade - You heard about it, because Lockheed was the one making noise, not us, never us.

M2K-9 Upgrades - 10~15 years would be a safe bet. Beyond that structural upgrades, could keep them relevant as Tier2 /3 fighters. Some of the PAF MirageIII's are 50 years old. So with proper maintenance it is possible.

Rafale - Neuron is what is keeping it relevant, otherwise EF's price per unit, tech transfer, maint package, payment terms are much better.

Like I said earlier, things are very fluid right now, wait for the dust to settle.

EW - @HRK already mentioned that

You were very close

1) When one buys big ticket items, you also buy political clout. Sweden's clout in comparison to US, UK & EU = nothing

lol, very true.

2) With the amount of American h/w in the Gripen, it is still subject to their strings, so the whole point of having a 2nd platform fails. Plus the Swedes can be finicky as well, so with big ticket items, it is best to avoid them.

Absolutely. Hard to believe that they are actually finicky about who they sell the Gripen to, but I honestly don't believe it's because of some holier than thou attitude or requirement one must have, it's the US putting pressure to stay away from US clients if you notice who buys Gripens. Its list of operators is nowhere in the interest of US arms sales. That's the real reason IMO.

3) The EF and Rafale are twin engine heavies, the Gripen a single engine light weight. Replacing the M2K-9(upgraded) with the Gripen would be equivalent to a 1:1 replacement, whereas with EF/Rafale it would be 1:1.5 or 2 - in terms of capability.

Very good way of putting it. Although the only part I would slightly change is the "heavy" aspect, even though I totally get your point as the Raffy and ER are 'heavies' compared to M2K and Gripen. But with respect to the real heavies as in F-15 and Su-/30/35 etc., I really hope you guys don't go anywhere near the Su-35. As great as it is, please don't make the same mistake we did when we chose the MiG-35 as much as I like it, and Egypt obviously has over half a century experience with MiGs and soviet arms in general, it put a big krink in what we thought was gong to be the new EAF which would consist of all-western equipment for the obvious reason of compatibility.

For the UAE, keeping the 2000-9 and upgrading it to Rafale standards is a no-brainer, along with the Block 60 upgrade and then go after the F-35 in the most aggressive manner. But stay away from the Sukhois, does not make any sense whatsoever. With the only benefits, really, are a much lager array of weapons and weapons load, that's it. It's longer, strategic range is equaled in the F-35 plus you get the amazing F-35 stealth attributes AND your platforms and weapons and links and coms and this and that are all compatible. It's another absolute no-brainer to stay away from the Su-whatever and end up with the latest capable F-16, MK-2000 equal to the Rafale F3, the F-35 in all its glory and maybe add the Raffy F4 later. This is exactly what I would do and maybe the JV with the Russians, fine.

Absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS! What a beauty! :smitten:
