What's new

U.S. offers help to South East Asia, most to Vietnam, to patrol seas

123 agreement concluded, that means even nuclear technology ownership and enrichment of uranium right passed to Vietnam with US, Russia approval.

US said that we trust in Vietnam, so nuclear technology could give to them

So AEGIS destroyer is not too difficult to achieve ...

US would declare the loans give to Vietnam for lethal weapons purchase.

It's realistic that they declared to support for Vietnam to buy patrol vessels, so no necessory to buy from US, but Korea, Japan ... which is cheaper

Yes, just like monkey evolving into human is not too difficult to achieve.

All American gifts are NOT FREE, including Japan / S.Korea / Philippines / TaiWan / India all need to pay high cost for their retired toys or 2x-3x price to buy new advanced weapons.

How many Burke-class DDGs u dream American can donate to Vietnam ? Ur guys will make American bankrupt, like Soviet last time.:p:

Vietnam in Asia like Israel in Arab world, another billions of military aid will make American bankrupt too.

HAHA ... Pit-father teammate / 坑爹队友 :rofl:. Good luck VNese! Let the American bankrupt, China will award ur ppl a ton of medals.
Fail...

This alliance will strengthened VN economically and more. The majority of Vietnamese, including the members here, are borned after the war. They have no emotional ties to that war and all the Viet members of this forum, including the ones cheering for Ho, knows it. They know about Ho Chi Minh as much as they know about Santa Claus. Once the US have the increased presence there, other Asian countries will join in.

On December 16, Secretary of State John Kerry announced an initial commitment of $32.5 million in new regional and bilateral assistance to advance maritime capacity building in Southeast Asia. Including this new funding, our planned region-wide funding support for maritime capacity building exceeds $156 million for the next two years.

As an example of our commitment to strengthen maritime capacities in Southeast Asia, the United States intends to provide up to $18 million in new assistance to Vietnam to enhance the capacity of coastal patrol units to deploy rapidly for search and rescue, disaster response, and other activities, including through provision of five fast patrol vessels in 2014 to the Vietnamese Coast Guard. This assistance directly responds to priorities identified in the Joint Minutes on Vietnam and U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Cooperation signed October 1, 2013, by VCG Major General Nguyen Quang Dam and USCG Commandant Admiral Robert J. Papp, Jr.

The United States will also expand its support for regional cooperation by strengthening information sharing among national agencies in Southeast Asia charged with maritime security and maritime law enforcement ( Vietnam would trace the outside submarines entering the SCS ) . Building on existing programs and initiatives, we will increase training for maritime law enforcement officials from participating Southeast Asian countries in multilateral settings, such as currently occurs in the Gulf of Thailand initiative and Trilateral Interagency Maritime Law Enforcement Workshops. We will take advantage of the International Law Enforcement Academy in Bangkok, Thailand, to deliver new maritime law enforcement training courses for maritime officials across Southeast Asia.

The Secretary’s announcement builds upon the United States’ longstanding commitment to support the efforts of Southeast Asian nations to enhance security and prosperity in the region, including in the maritime domain. Existing programs include efforts to combat piracy in and around the Malacca Strait, to counter transnational organized crime and terrorist threats in the tri-border region south of the Sulu Sea between the southern Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and to expand information sharing and professional training through the Gulf of Thailand initiative. In addition, since 1999 the U.S.-supported International Law Enforcement Academy in Bangkok, Thailand has been one of the world’s premier multilateral platforms for law enforcement training and cooperation.

Once VN governed by Vietnamese Communist Party, the Ho Chi Minh and Communist still is American's competitor in Vietnam. They can welcome American's aids but never accept FREEDOM to replace their rights in Vietnam.

The political core in Vietnam is Communist unless American change it like "Vietnam/Hanoi Spring" movement, or US only has limited influence in Vietnam.

2007 article quote :
The US is spending about $10 billion a month on Iraq and Afghanistan. By the end of this year, the total funds appropriated will be nearly $600 billion – approaching the amount spent on the Vietnam or Korean wars, when adjusted for inflation.

Not only US but Japan want to give away hundreds million US dollar as funding to South Asia

Of course Burke-class DDG, and sub only can provide Los Angeles-class.

Wow! That's pretty advanced stuff, not to mention very expensive. Plus, all the training that would be needed for them to operate such ships.

Don't let the SE Asia Israel disappoint, bro. Promise them !

@Viet
Vietnam needs to convince the US further of the important role we play in the region, for peace, stablity and for balance of power in SE Asia. Once America sees Vietnam as strategically important as Israel in Middle East, they will provide billions of military aid to Vietnam.

What kind of destroyers and subs would you like US to offer?
as cnleio already says, Aegis class destroyer (my wishlist, Christmas is coming soon) :-)

@Viet

lol Even Israel as advanced a military as it is, doesn't have LA Class subs and Burke-Class Destroyers though. Where would they station these ships? Cam Ranh Bay?

Well my friend, definitely one heck of a Christmas list :-)

Oh yeah right, like our Vietnamese friend here doesn't have any problems with their finance to keep the maintenance of western stuff. Remind me what happened to the South Vietnam when the US left them in the final stage of the war :oops:

lol, look like you own the US military industry complex by yourself.

Do you have freaking idea about the price of a single AB DDG? It costs a fcking 2 billion USD per ship, do you know that Vietnam's entire military budget is only 3.7 billion in this year? What are you going to do? Gift them?

Please show some skill & knowledge instead of coming out with just some unrealistic lip service.
