U.S. military moves 3 aircraft carrier strike groups near Iran

I wonder why some Indians are so hysteric. Nothing has happened yet. Probably they just want to exert more pressure on Iran before Iran negotiations with P5+1 over its nuclear program. Also, as far as I learned only one air craft carrier is added to the US present fleet in the Persian Gulf. Not that it's nothing to worry about, but it doesn't necessarily mean the war is coming.

I hope it doesn't come to war but America is providing some big targets. Yea we know Americans could flatten Iran or any other country in the world. But if it happens I think they may face serious casualties.

I guess U.S is not looking for full-scale war with iran but interested in few clashes with Iran's forces so can put pressure on iran and try to create some strong reason to attack .... The reason is needed to blame iran and to use UN forces to make them surrender... Iran needs to be ready for any case scenario and be prepared for conditional war tactics ... and smartly need to play their game on world forum...

At a pinch the US can use the following assets available for moving to the Fifth Fleet Area of Responsibility

1. CVN-73 George Washington. Present location - Yokosuka, Japan, Time to be effective in Northern Arabian Sea - 5 days.
2. CVN-76 Ronald Reagan. Location as on 09/01/2012 - EastPac (East pacific), Time to be effective in proposed conflict area -7 days.

CVN-72 Abraham Lincoln, which was in the South China Sea on 10 Jan 2012 will be in the Northern Arabian Sea by 15 Jan. If the CVN-74 John C. Stennis is not pulled out for the planned repairs, then with the addition of CVN-70 Carl Vinson we already have a very potent force of three CBGs with the Fifth Fleet. So what we have to really watch out for in the coming days is for signs of the John C. Stennis moving out of the treatre of operations which will indicate that we may avoid a war here. OTOH, if any of the two super carriers at 1 and 2 start moving westwards into the Indian Ocean, a potential war between the US and Iran will be the likelihood unless Iran backs down which does not appear to be happening.

A war between Iran and the US is bad news for India. 12% of our crude intake comes from Iran. A stoppage of this crude supply, even for a week will lead to skyrocketing costs of diesel, petrol and kerosene. Oil import bill to be totally rendered unmanageable due to globally rising of crude prices. Inflation slowly coming under control in India will spike again resulting in very high food prices. Stock market crash, flight of FDI etc etc, the cost of such a war on India will be very bad indeed.

U.S. military moves 3 aircraft carrier strike groups near Iran

The U.S. military said on Wednesday that a new aircraft carrier strike group had arrived in the Arabian Sea and that another was on its way to the region, but denied any link to recent tensions with Iran and portrayed the movements as routine.

The shift in the powerful U.S. naval assets comes at a moment of heightened tensions with Iran, which has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz - the world's most important oil shipping lane - if U.S. and EU sanctions over its nuclear program cut off its oil exports.

The U.S. military has said it will halt any blockade of the strategic strait and the top U.S. naval officer acknowledged on Tuesday that preparing for a potential conflict there was something that "keeps me awake at night."

Still, the Pentagon denied any direct link between recent tensions and the movement of aircraft carriers.

"I don't want to leave anybody with the impression that we're somehow (speeding) two carriers over there because we're concerned about what happened, you know, today in Iran. It's just not the case," said Captain John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesman.

Military officials said the USS Carl Vinson arrived in the Arabian Sea on Monday to replace the outgoing USS John C. Stennis carrier strike group, which Iran last week warned not to return to the Gulf after departing in late December.

The Stennis was due to return to its home port in San Diego but the Pentagon did not say when that would happen.

Another carrier strike group, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, concluded a port visit to Thailand on Tuesday and was now in the Indian Ocean. It is on track to join the Vinson in the Central Command area of operations, which begins in the neighboring Arabian Sea.

It is "not unusual to have two carriers in the CENTCOM theater at the same time," a second U.S. military official said.

Another official said there had been two carriers in the Gulf region at least twice in the past 18 months.

Tensions between Iran and the United States ratcheted up again in the past week. Iran started an underground uranium enrichment plant and sentenced an American to death for spying. Washington and Europe have stepped up efforts to cripple Iran's oil exports, and Tehran on Wednesday blamed U.S. and Israeli agents for killing an Iranian nuclear scientist.

Israel declined to comment on the killing and the United States denied any U.S. role and condemned the attack, in which the scientist was blown up by a bomb attached to his car by a motorbike hitman.

The Pentagon has suggested that, sooner a carrier will pass through the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf.

"We routinely operate our ships - all of our ships, all of our types of ships - inside the Arabian Gulf and that will continue," Kirby said.

The US war criminals and war mongerers are again threatening war against Iran. After Irak, Afganistan, its now Iran, its like the US is engaging into a crusade war against all Muslim countries which are not aligning themselves to their policies and ideologies. A good war is good for their economy. Protecting the Ormuz strait and sea routes is just a pretext to impose their neo colonialism rules all around the world. The next crusade will be against China and Russia of Putin. In Asia, the divide and rule policy is working since the US arch war rival, Vietnam is against China and adopting a pro US policy. The arms embargo against Vietnam has been de facto lifted.

By what i've heard, its 2 aircraft carriers coming in, 1 leaving. The one's coming in are mentioned above. Still no great thing, this was probably planned well in advance, but this forum loves sensationalism, and who can blame them?

iran is not iraq usa will have to go all out but yeah iran wont stand much of a chance but usa cant go for full invasion their economy and people dont want that and then what if iran already has nukes and send them flying in the entire region it will create havoc and usa is prone to blunders not too mention the oil price it will kill all of us.... usa is proably showing strenght or readying for a very minimum conflict over that us cant afford it

No it won't. No one should be looking towards war. More Irianian women and children will die, while only a few high school drop out and American degenerate will die. America will be safe and the MidEast will suffer.

I don't see how anyone can look forward to seeing women and children die. It is really sad.

The logic of Americans who oppose another war this time with Iran :
"Please don't attack Iran, because more of our troops will be killed and our economy will go down faster"
I've seen sentences like this hundreds of times in forums and other sites.actually they don't care how many Iranian children, women will die.We saw this 2 weeks ago when president Obama praised troops who came back home from Iraq and called them heroes and veterans, but didn't even mention thousands of Iraqis who have been killed in the war.
