The 14,900-ton Pakistan Navy fleet replenishment tanker ‘NASR’ is paying a four-day operational call on Kenya from December 24 – 27, 2012. NASR is a leading unit of Pakistan Navy Fleet’s 9th Auxiliary and Mine Warfare Squadron. She was built at Dalian Shipyard China and joined PN Fleet on 26 August 1987. NASR is capable of providing fuel, water and stores including ammunition to surface ships and Helicopters at sea for their prolonged operations and therefore it acts as lifeline of the Fleet. Apart from its combat support role, NASR can carry two small or one large helicopter. The storage facility of various types of missiles, ASW weapons and other munitions on boards further enhance her importance and utility at sea. She is under the command of Captain Tarique Hussain and carries a complement of 320 officers and crew.

BAKU - Turkey won a tender announced by Pakistan Navy for construction of a warship, the Hurriyet newspaper reported. Turkish company Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik (STM) signed an agreement with the Defence Ministry of Pakistan. Under the agreement, the warship will be constructed at a shipyard in Karachi, and its parts will be manufactured in Turkey.

It is reported that the agreement also covers training of the ship crew and its testing. Cost of the project and schedule for construction has not been announced.
