Turkish Sensor and Detector Programs

Hanwha is capable company which developed number of radars. But this project started like 2 years ago. And number of sources claimed this prototype was manufactured in Israel. Considering Elbit is helping Hanwha, that is possible.

There is nothing wrong with using foreign know-how as long as you have IP rights and you can manufacture it locally. But there is nothing wrong with asking if this prototype is manufactured in Israel.

That number of sources most probably Chinese fanboys talking in this forum. The official information said that Israel is only contributing on the test, not the development and manufacturing. You can see good information about it in my KFX/IFX thread. And on the development there is also Saab if I am not mistaken helping the development.

It is not true saying the AESA development just started 2 years ago.

South Korea Signals AESA Progression

South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has signalled progression in its programme to develop an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar system in collaboration with local industry.

DAPA said in a statement on 31 May that its radar programme – intended to support the Korean Fighter Experimental (KFX) aircraft – has completed a two-year preliminary design phase and will now move to the critical design stage before a design review in May 2019.

Following the design review, DAPA hopes to produce a pilot prototype in 2020, which will be installed on early prototypes of the KFX from 2022. After several years of trials, DAPA aims to start initial production of both the aircraft and its AESA radar from the mid-2020s.

Under a KRW360 billion (USD334 million) contract awarded in mid-2016, the AESA development programme is led by Hanwha Systems, which is collaborating with the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), a DAPA subsidiary. Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), as lead developer of the KFX, is also involved in the programme.

KAI has previously outlined a target to produce about 250 twin-engine KFX fighter aircraft to replace the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (RoKAF’s) F-4E Phantom and F-5E Tiger II aircraft and, ultimately, its F-16 Fighting Falcon platforms. KAI also expects to export several hundred KFX fighters.

But still, they required external countries to help in development and requested TechTransfer from U.S. (denied by congress).

Guys, don't be surprised if Italy is helping Aselsan to develop AESA radar for TFX.

Turkey is developing AESA radars without any foreign assistance. Radar for F-16 will be delivered in 2021 and for MMU in 2023.

Turkey doesnt need help for a radar development, we have enough know how to make our own.

Quantum radar is an emerging remote-sensing technology based on input quantum correlations (in particular, quantum entanglement) and output quantum detections. If it is successfully developed, it will allow the radar system to pick out its own signal even when swamped by background noise. This allows it to detect stealth aircraft, filter out deliberate jamming attempts, and operate in areas of high background noise, e.g., due to ground clutter. The first feasible design of a quantum radar was proposed in 2015 by an international team[1][2] and is based on the protocol of Gaussian quantum illumination.[3]

for development no need help, but we still have some problem with mass productions of transistors. FLIR a bit different, we can make them serial production but IR sensor that we have lagging behind from western products yet(so TAF prefer better one)

this pic is from 2016-17, we have a working prototype AESA for F16. probabaly within a year(idef?) they will show us.

we do, aselsan orders some from east asia , it is Turkish design but made in Taiwan or south korea, same logic with american iphone in china made. there is a cooperation with malaisia (at least we heard something like that) to make a serial production method/facility.

Leonardo expressed a willingness to help in the development of TFX, it would be highly beneficial for Turkey to take up this offer to shorten development time and lessen risks.

But currently, there are no information regarding whether Turkey took up the offer.

We will need some form of smaller scale mass production installation in our own country. So our external dependence is reduced. Supply chain is important as corona virus has shown us.

When you talk about silicon transistor manufacturing, Price tag of single factory starts at 3b$ but it is usually upwards of 10b$ for latest production nodes. Maybe more importantly there is one company that sells machinery for this.

More reasonable option would be buying factory that uses older production nodes. This factories can be transported, and they can be useful for military applications and maybe for industrial purposes. but such smaller scale manufacturing investment is more than a billion dollars. And we already have access to such production capability via Malaysia. Unfortunately Silicon Chip manufacturing is not economical at this point.

I visited Billund Lego and in the Legohouse they had a single device making and packaging bricks as a souvenir. Occupied 4-6sqm area. I know it’s a pretty simple plastic item, but it should be possible. TAI or Tusas has already developed first microprocessor chip.
