Turkish Peace Operations in Syria (Operation Olive Branch) Updates & Discussions

The crew inside shouldn't be dead, that ammuniton blast is designed to blast outside. Or the crew have let the hatch open and get killed, and soldier near the tank. What we see is pkk is wel informated about the location of the ammunition!

After the take over the city they should not get incautious.
That's not true actually one of the weaknesses of the Leo2A4 is that not all of the rounds are stored in a blast resistant compartment.

the longer this operation lasts, you give more time to your adversaries to arm terrorists...
and it is a bit different than al bab operation, because nobody wanted to arm isis

i have a feeling this operation was tailored in such manner that it doesnt affect turkish economy

I think the primary concern is minimizing losses. A blitzkrieg style attack would lead to a lot of material and human losses. They're effectively besieging Afrin, waiting for it to collapse.

Afrin op, gonna be more difficult. or at least longer.

IMO. Idlib's FSA and Rebels accepted to join Afrin operation at the condition Turkey put in place some sort of cease fire in East Idlib during YPG/PKK op...
But, TR mediation and Sochi failed, we saw it with that TR convoy incident and advance of ASSad/RU side.

If some recall... They were an annoucement from RU, that Idlib op will be halted, that was few days before AFrin op... Something happen later on, whatever ASSad or Iran or RU weren't on that boat for X reasons... therefore fight continued...
With today, and that RU planeshot down... that will give RU/ASSad an others escuse to push even more.

YOu should rememebr that the area being bombed and taken byASSad/RU is part of the de-escalation area that TR-RU-Iran concluded with Astena agreement... As of Today Astena map and contract is over.

Now that FSA/Rebels saw, that nothing can be done no more to stop Idlib assault... they are beginning to mobilize more soldiers to that front... but this will result in taking out from Afrin.

Few scenarios could follow, FSA/REbels will take more and more soldier from AFrin, that will push Turkey to invest even more Turkish soldiers to compensate the lose and therfore continue Afrin op or halting Afrin op after securing the border strip...

And regardless of who supplied YPG/PYD/PKK we still need to win this. And we can't do that without casualties. I think our guys need to figure out somekind of defense on the tanks.

I think in Philippines they strapped wood to the outer side of their vehicles which pretty much made a difference when the rebels/terrorists used AT and AP missiles.

Russians and Assad is playing three dimensional chess while mullah son Erdoğan is player checkers. That is the problem. Turkish leadership need to drop the Quran and read some chess books. All of our plans are short term.

They cant drop it. Quran is being used as a gun by our sultans, why did they wait so long to attack afrin? apparently that was a mistake

This operation needs to leverage airborne troops to be dropped behind enemy lines to disrupt; these troops should be supported by the air force and attack helicopters... All the while the commando units need to press from all sides, with artillery and air cover.. otherwise this op is going to last for a while and I fear SAA and Russia will take Idlib, and that is something the FSA and arabs will not forgive Turkey.

I will also say that the TAF needs to improve their tank tactics, tanks in this terrain are sitting ducks, and they should leverage their distance firing, conceal and fire at targets. Tanks should only be used in coordination with mechanized infantry and never alone. There is a drone video showing Turkish tanks pounding YPG bunkers, maybe 100 meters away, this is a mistake, and exposes the tanks to get hit, especially when the tanks are not supported by infantry.. The enemy has anti tank weapons, and all it takes is one shot to knock it out, that and the mountainous terrain means that this needs to be done by foot, and by air cover. Tanks are to be used on the peripheral playing a support function from a long distance, concealed position..

It appears we haven’t learnt anything from the Jarablus operation. TSK is only at the outer layer of Afrin where not most of YPG militia is. If we go this slow and still have such high casualties then that is an indication what is ahead. About the anti tank equipment that YPG has. It is hard to trace who gave it. It could have been Iran, Russia, Assad, US or even China.

Or North Korea.

The biggest criminals in this war are those Balkan states selling weapons to each and everyone. Old Soviet stock or newly manufactured. They sell it to everyone as long as they make money. Spineless countries.

No one talks about how the ISIS convoy has left Raqqa without problems and has joined the YPG. The transport of ISIS consisted not only of manpower but also of weapons. You do not have to be a professor to understand that ISIS has many US-made ATM systems in its possession. They have ''so-called'' stolen them from the Iraqi army.

Anyway. We are there to fight and not to cuddle. Unfortunately, we will experience such losses. It is very unfortunate that these tanks are not protected against such ATM attacks. You expect other strategies to optimally protect these tanks with crew, but unfortunately you can not prevent everything.

Turkey should give a very strong response so that they think twice about the next possible ATM attacks. Let them know that this make us even more agressive.

1. Bu fareler Köy merkezlerini TUTMUYOR
ETRAFINA mağazip küçük guruplar halinde bekliyor

2. Zırhlılar EYP mayına karşı yolları değil ARAZI den gitmeli

Allah yardimcilari olsun.

Those who say IS captured ATGW from Iraqi army are misinformed. Iraq held very few ATGM (only Kornet-E) which were recently supplied by Russia earlier in 2014 before the IS takeover. At summer 2014 these Kornet-E systems were not deployed at the areas taken by IS, in 2015 a small number of these were captured by IS in Baiji and Ramadi. The bulk of their ATGW inventory comes from SAA stockpiles which have huge ATGM stockpiles as well as the shares they received from the 'FSA' before they declared war on them in 2013, prior to that they were co-ruling and sharing arms in the Deir-az zour region.

As for Kords.
No one in the region wants to see a Kurdish state except for Israel, it's their parents fault who brainwash their children to dream of a Kurdish state when Kurds hate each other. See Iraqi Kurdistan and you know it all, they're deeply entrenched with tribal loyalties. Only the diaspora Kurds care less for these tribalistic loyalties, except they're irrelevant. Kurdistan sucks.

I love Turkey and support Turkey

But I don't understand what kind of mind is planning this operation. If you are not moving fast, you should at least block the supply lines. You should surround them. You have left them easy supply lines via Regime lines.

You are sitting their and doing what? What does capturing a few peaks mean? Just exposing your forces to easy ambush, while you yourself are not conducting any ambush type operations.

And moving at a snail pace. This isn't ISIS, they will be constantly and effectively resupplied with weapons, men, logistics, intel. CIA will give them detailed situation briefings and targets of vulnerability.

This situation is absolutely stupid. You aren't even going for their leadership. You could try to bomb their command centers in Afrin city.

Most importantly you must stop the supply chain! Get some experts from the Pakistan Army, I am sure they will tell you that simply capturing peaks, that too at the speed of a snail will not get you anywhere. They will simply move to another location, again get all the leisure and time to dig in, create defenses, bleed some more Turks and again the snail will move. Then they will again move another hill and dig in and wait for the snail to move again.

This is not a mature response. Arms will and has always been sold. If the balkan states don't sell, someone else will. One of the richest people in Bangladesh is an arms dealer, and most of his sales are from and to foreign states.

One can't blame the world for the mistakes they are themselves making. And one cannot win this war with a godless secular Turkey ala Ataturk strategy. Any appeal to Turkish nationalism will itself strengthen the Kurdish need for a separate state.
