Turkish Peace Operations in Syria (Operation Olive Branch) Updates & Discussions

i call that bulsh**t how are we gonna take raqqa when the the sdf/ypg. are 10 miles away and we are 100 miles. every time erdogan says we are gonna take this and that like its a piece of cake and you are all falling for it, which is pathetic, erdogan shouldn't even talk about the operations thats is the job of the army and the inteligence to decide where and what we should be doing.

Sen Erdogan'la kafayi bozmussun. Psikolojik sorunlarin var.

Reinforcement from Raqqah will weaken Raqqah itself and make it easier to capture on later dates.

@blondeturkish is right here. We don't know who will attack Raqqah, and I don't think Turkey will be in.

But yeah some people should really lessen their hate about Erdogan, they cannot managed to be objectif, 3 day ago people was saying we should quit al bab after Turkey seam have no succes, and yet day after we finally come in Al Bab.

We are not the military or politician, we don't know the technical situation in Syria and we don't know the political deal Turkey was doing between USA and Russia.

You should all keep our critize for the end of the operation, what Turkey has win and what he has loss because of Syria's operation.

the head of that snake is currently in Syria and not lraq, lf we don't clean Syria now it will become a big problem in the future.

They're already too well established to conduct a large military OP against the whole of YPG in Syria, it wouldn't be accepted by the US either. As for Raqqa, SDF uses it to get arms from the US, they're unlikely to actually take that city. Have to wait to see what happens between SAA and FSA/Nusra

Without the US support we would push them out very easily because they're controlling Arab lands and many Arabs don't even want them, the Kurdish presence isn't that large in Syria, they only hold the majority in Afrin, Kobani, Qamishli(somewhat) and some parts of Northern East but that's it. They makeup %5 of the population but now control over %35 of the country...We just need to persuade the US and start an operation, US right now doesn't see any alternatives to YPG that's why they keep supporting them.

Turkish top soldier says al-Bab operation over: Report

The northern Syrian town of al-Bab has been liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Turkish daily Sabah reported Feb. 16, following months of battles between Turkey and its Free Syrian Army (FSA) proxy on one side and ISIL on the other.

“Good news! The al-Bab operation is over,” a report in Sabah released on Feb. 16 quoted Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar as telling a small group of reporters in Doha, where he went as part of a wider visit to the region together with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Talking about the details of the al-Bab operation as part of Turkey’s ongoing Euphrates Shield operation, Akar said two big traps, which included bombs, were destroyed and that cleansing efforts were underway in the region, according to the report.

Turkey launched its Euphrates Shield operation on Aug. 24, 2016, in order to clear its border of terrorist organizations, which include ISIL but also the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing, the People’s Protection Unit (YPG).

Turkey regards both the PYD and YPG as terror organizations due to their links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), with which it has been engaged in armed clashes since the mid-1980s.

While the first phases of the operation were easier with regards to liberating towns and land in northern Syria from ISIL, Turkey and the FSA have faced strong resistance in al-Bab.

The Turkish troops and FSA members have been fighting near al-Bab since December 2016 and both forces have experienced many casualties during this time.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Feb. 14 that al-Bab was now “largely” under the control of the Syrian rebels after months of clashes with jihadists.

At least 15 ISIL terrorists were “neutralized” in northern Syria in the last 24 hours as part of the ongoing Euphrates Shield operation, according to a Turkish General Staff statement released early on Feb. 16.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply the militants in question to be either killed or captured.

Also, 258 ISIL targets, including ISIL’s shelters, possible defense positions and tunnel mouths have been hit by FSA fighters with Turkish Land Forces support, the statement said.

In addition, Turkish fighter jets destroyed 20 buildings including 15 hideouts, two headquarters, two arms depots and an armed vehicle belonging to ISIL.

I hope It is a successful military result instead of a politic desicion.

Cabatlı this is a false statement.

Our forces still fighting in the western and northern parts of the city (visual confirmation can be found all over the net.) and still not entered the city center.

This statement caused a huge disappointment for me.

Until I see evidence I don't believe that it is captured. I hope some journalist didn't make a big mistake by misquoting Akar Paşa.

Basically we should wait till an official announcement, anything else is sketchy, also an FSA announcement.

A Haber says that fighting is still on going but that operation to clear Daesh is in its last phase for AlBab.

TRT Arabic reported that Al-Bab is almost under control, TSK hit 300 targets:

No news is saying that Al-Bab has been captured except that one article and the other articles that quote the same source.
