''Turkey's Undersecretariat of Defense Industries (SSM) and Turkish shipyard Sedef Shipbuilding Inc. have signed a contract to build Turkey's first landing platform dock (LPD) on Thursday,

the LPD is a part Turkey's national ship (MİLGEM) project and the country's recent moves to develop and improve its own defense industry. Weighing 27,436 tons, 231 meter-long ship will be able to carry 1,200 personnel as well as tanks, helicopters, drones and warplanes. The ship will also include a full-fledged hospital.

The contract was signed during IDEF'15 defense fair, which acted as a show-off venue for Turkey's booming defense industry.
The LPD will be able to sail non-stop for 50 days, while having a range of up to 9,000 nautical miles (17,000 kilometers), which would allow Turkish Navy a strong presence even in the Atlantic and Indian oceans.'' (Daily Sabah)

The Atlantic could mean a direct challenge to spanish Interests in North Africa in the Area Straight of Gibraltar and the so called "western Sahara" in Morocco ! Juan Carlos CLass LHD can only House around 16 F-35B which give the LHD a very limited self defence Capabillity ! To Operate in this Evirement I'd rather prefer strategic Bombers or Aircraft Carrier which can House nearly 60 Aircraft and on Board AEW&C Capabillity like the E2 Hawkeye !

For the Indian Ocean it will only give Turkey a limited Power Projection Capabillity in the arabian Sea and the Horn of Africa and could allow TAF to conduct Operation against Houthis and Khawarij !

Not only reported delivery date but also news itself is strange. The schedules on such projects are not proceeding with orders. Each processes take time and Put "before 2017" stories aside, Constructing a LPD like Juan Carloss earlier than 2020 is impossible. Such news are created for different politic purposes in election times.

It could be a date when the vessel will be launched but not when it will be put to service. This is the third time building the same ahip after for Spain and Australia so they may have learned to make it faster too. And they may need money therefore want to make it quick.

Could it be possible that they confused LPD with two LST's being constracted in Anadolu Shipyard? In Turkish Naval Forces official website, it says that ''two LST's are constracted in Anadolu Shipyard and planned to be taken into inventory in 2017''.
