A Turkish Air Force pilot officer was seriously assaulted in broad daylight Sept. 11 by a Kuwaiti diplomat and embassy officials after a quarrel on Ankara streets.

The F-16 fighter jet pilot, Staff Lieutenant Colonel Hakan Karakuş, who works at NATO headquarters in Brussels, was in Ankara on paternity leave. When he was assaulted, he was on his way to a healthcare center in the Çankaya district of Ankara with his wife and his six-month-old baby, so that the latter could be vaccinated.

The car belonging to the Kuwaiti Embassy carried alleged Kuwaiti Military attaché Emad Ali A., Kuwaiti diplomat Adel Ahmad A., and Turkish driver Selahattin A.

The embassy’s car reportedly turned sharply in front of the Colonel’s car, to which Colonel reacted by blowing his car horn. After this, the diplomats and driver got out of the embassy’s car and told Col. Karakuş that they had the right of the way. After the row escalated, the three men started to beat up Col. Karakuş on the street.

The Kuwaiti Embassy officials kicked the pilot in the head several times, according to eyewitnesses.
Several people who saw the incident attempted to protect Karakuş, and as the crowd grew the three embassy officials ran away, while the Kuwaiti attaché took shelter in a nearby bank.

The police arrived at the scene and took the necessary security measures so the diplomat would be protected. He was later taken to the police station for questioning.

Lt. Col. Karakuş, who is the son-in-law of the Commander of Turkish Air Force, General Akın Öztürk, was taken to hospital at the Gülhane Military Medical Faculty.

Emad Ali A. was not detained by the police after he said he had diplomatic impunity, and he was taken to the embassy after the incident.

NATO officials from Brussels also have contacted the local administration about the medical situation of Karakuş.

Karakuş received a medical report, in which doctors said he could not work for 20 days. He complained about the attackers in a testimony to military officers, but did not give a testimony to the police as he is an active duty soldier. The Turkish General Staff have contacted the Foreign Ministry and demanded that “all measures be taken” against the diplomat, including deportation.

  • Turkish officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have informed the Kuwaiti Embassy and started the process of "persona non grata" for all three Arabic diplomats involved and reported to directly expell the penetrators.

  • The Turkish National Police have started an investigation. The diplomatic impunity of the Kuwaitis may be suspended at the following days.

I know the Turkish psyche very well. Their media will play this day in and day out and the people will be pretty pissed off. They have a lot of respect for their military people including pilots.

I'm surprised the offenders managed to walk away because if Turks came to know about it, there would've been a riot and massacre.

Over a traffic incident a diplomat gets out of his official car and creates trouble in his host country? He deserves to have his *** kicked. Stuff like this can get you shot.

What a fkn disgrace...

Arabs think they rule the world with their petro dollar, and I am someone who has witnessed first hand the sort of pride and pomp these Arabs display as if they were the most superior race on the face of this earth.

.
Ordinary people are involved but they weren't sure what was going on either, they also didn't knew that beaten guy was a military personal, if they knew it before these f.ckers are fled they would indeed lynch them.

.
Those diplomats were lucky the people didnt know that he is a pilot in the airforce, very lucky.

.
they should force Kuwaiti ambassador to apologize to the entire nation

what kind of diplomats are they having - that they would get out of a car and beat a CITIZEN of the host country

doesnt matter if he's pilot or a regular citizen...but the fact that he IS a pilot - Turks gonna be pretty angry.

by the way was this in Gazi Osman Pasa/Cankaya area of Ankara? The surroundings in the video in that link are looking very familiar to me

namely the gulf arabs......regular arabs like Lebanese or Egyptian or Yemeni or Tunisian are very respectful people, I've had good interactions with them

but some of these gulf arabs act like they own the place - such as these numb-skull idiots who have just created a very serious diplomatic incident

a little off topic --- my folks used to live in Ankara when my father was stationed there for a certain diplomatic function

they were on Kelebek Sokkak which is right across from the residence of the Kuwaiti ambassador and LITERALLY around the corner from the Presidential palace....they had a balcony on 2nd floor of the house and i remember they used to make alot of noise late at night. Turkish residents nearby always used to complain

kuwaiti foreign ministry seems to choose some of the shittiest people to represent them in foreign countries

It reminds me the little fighting we had two years ago.
The Naval School is located at Heybeliada Island of Istanbul which is also a top location for tourists. One day we left the base at weekend for Çarşı İzni (Weekend Permit) but we just left for a good lunch then we had planned to come back. So we had our summer time white uniforms on. We were having lunch at a restaurant. A British youth group asked who we were in those uniforms and laterly sit with us. We talked about the sea stuff and so. There was a group of Arabic tourists sitting next to us. All of the five men started smoking. It was forbidden of course. Waitress have asked them several times, they didn't give a ****. Then a Turkish father next to them kindly asked them not to do it hence he had his baby with him and told them it was illegal and giving harm to his baby. Then they started problem about the Turkish family. One stood up and pushed the father. In response, One of my shipmates walked near them and asked them kindly not to do it and leave. He punched my mate. Then the fight started. The most people over there jumped on those bit.ches even before than us....:D

Then the manager held us suddenly and said "You kids leave here now, I know you'll get disciplinary points if you get caught by the İnzibats (military police). Don't have any doubts that we will show them what it takes to dare against our soldiers, now get lost!"

We were not commissioned yet of course. But it was a life lesson and proud feeling that our people always had our back. Too bad it didn't work out today.

The Turks should grab hold of these Kuwaiti "diplomats" and give them ten times worse. They are lucky they were saved from the crowd.

Actually feed them to Galatasary's fans lol.

youre telling me the Arab guy shoved the father and hit the guy in uniform (your friend)

I would have picked up chairs and broken the guy's skull into ten pieces.

the diplomat is lucky to be alive.....Turks are very civilized people but I know they would have cut his head off with a Doner knife if they knew what they had done

When I lived in Turkiye it was between Istanbul and Izmit/Kocaeli.

But i used to drive down to Ankara every weekend or every 2 weekends to visit my parents in G.O.P.

I know Cankaya area very well. When I saw the CCTV footage of the kavga I recognized the street.

its pretty bad that a Kuwaiti military attache was involved...a MILITARY attache was involved in a fight against a Turkish fighter pilot. I dont think he will make many friends. I think Turks should raise HELL over this and put pressure on Kuwait. This is fucked up. Ne kadar serefsiz

.
Wish him a fast recovery. Hopefully the law will catch up to this Kuwaiti idiot.
