The project for second one will commence in 2017.

Really? I never knew Turkey plans more than one LHDs for its naval power.

How many total LHDs Turkey plans to develop? Also, Erdogan talked about building an aircraft carrier in future. Is it just talks or there are serious plans about it?

I always have this thought that what if, God forbid, all of these projects don't come to their fruitation?

Hopefully, Turkish defence industry becomes a true giant and all the projects going on today (Tanks, helicopters, electronic warfare components, drones, ships, missiles, submarines etc etc) become super effective and are mass produced and exported as well!

Its pointless to talk about aircraft career, while they are even mentioning "nuclear powered" while even UK has begin to use conventional propulsion systems. It seems like one of his advisors told about nuclear powered aircraft cariers.

In International System---there's only one and only one guarantee of your safety and survival. And that's power.

Aircraft carriers and long-range nuclear weapons are critical in modern era to ensure that other "predators" out there know that you have enough power to hurt them back, if they ever try to do anything.

Ukraine had all the insurances from NATO/US---look what happened to them! Russia gobbled them inside out infront of entire world--and nobody could do anything.

Aircraft carrier will give Turkey a global reach. Why do you think French and English (even Italians?) have aircraft carriers? Why do you think Indians are building em? China?

You can be a "docile" client state like South Korea and rely on others for your survival---or you can take your destiny in your own hands within International System. That's what Indians, Chinese are trying to do.

That's what French, Russians and UK have done.

The LHD will be usefull in the eastern mediterran and it enable TAF to react on Crisis in north Africa and on the Horn of Africa.

The money spend for an aircraft carier could be easily redirected for many defence technology ,or simply having more capable combatant ships to defend homeland.

Good but Turkey plans to start building Istanbul Class Frigates and TF-2000 Frigate
