No, not pejorative, I was not talking about Shamans, but like our charmers/fortune tellers.

Hani var ya gidiyosun bağlama büyüsüyü yapıyor bu adamı sana aşık edicem diyor, şunun evine uğursuzluk salıcam falan diyor :D

You mean like haci hoca, muskaci?

Yeah, but Büyücü is a more covering term :)

What does Bakshi means ? something like Bakıcı(in meaning of Seer) ?

We have them :) they write muska, tell future by looking into stones and sheep scapula (kurek kemigi)

Bakshi is a mongol word for shaman. while word shaman itself is a tungus (evenki) word. Turkic word for it is kam.

Don’t think change of name will make a lot of difference. Turkey also renamed their country as ‘Turkiye’ a few years back but everyone still calls it Turkey.

Despite the fact the land is old, country is quite young. Just like the Baltic States Lithuania, Estonia & Latvia, Kazakhstan is quite well known in the oil circles. There are many European countries such Slovenia & Moldova that are even less well-known. Give it time and Kazakhstan will be quite famous.
When did they do that?

@telkon Do you think they may have some Shamanic root ?

@Sinan

It has been written as Turkey in English, they tried to change it to Turkiye, but nobody cared, even we still use Turkey when speaking English :)

I didn't know about that attempt.

Suriye = Syria

Turkiye = Turkia but they call Turkey why.... ? Because we kicked some Brit ***. :D
