President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants Turkey's main coup suspect extradited but USA wants evidence
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Fethullah Gulen, a long-time resident of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, of orchestrating the July 15 abortive coup in which over 200 people were killed.

Washington has said Ankara must provide clear evidence of Gulen's involvement in the attempted coup before it will consider extraditing him.

The popular president whose people helped resist the military coup said he did not want to destroy relations with the US, but the country should do as they are asked.

Erdogan promised to deliver evidence of Gulen’s involvement, while suggesting there were foreign countries involved in the coup attempt.

The leader of the Justice and Development Party, Erdogan, said he was officially declaring three months of state emergency.

He also said Europe has “no right” to question why he is making such a big decision.

Gulen is wanted for questioning in Turkey after being accused of starting the coup
He also said he did not want to link the issue of US use of Turkey's Incirlik airbase with Ankara's request for the extradition of Muslim cleric Gulen.

Erdogan told broadcaster Al Jazeera through an interpreter: "We need to be more sensitive. Relations between our countries are based on interests, not feelings. We are strategic partners."

The president also warned the militants who attacked the Government may not be finished yet.

He warned arrests will continue.

Erdogan said: ”It is clear it was a minority (of the armed forces).

“The terrorist organisation was trying to make the minority dominate the majority."

The violent military coup to overthrow Turkey's President Erdogan has 'failed' leaving at least 104 dead and more than 1,500 wounded

Erdogan went on to say there was no liquidity problem in the Turkish market and Standard and Poor’s rating downgrade did not “reflect reality”.

He is working as president and commander in chief with the armed forces to ensure the “virus” has been wiped out.

European leaders have spoken of their concern over developments in the country since the failed putsch.

Erdogan has suggested he will let Parliament debate whether they can bring back the death penalty for those arrested, against calls from world leaders.

German chancellor Angela Merkel said she warned Erdogan over the phone Germany was keeping a close eye on developments.

Lol oké, Turkey is going to invade NYC tomorrow. Better watch out America :laughcry:

Everyone talking big, but the truth is Turkey needs the EU more than the EU needs Turkey. Even the talks between the EU and Turkey have a positive economic impact on Turkey.

Turkeys economy is dependent on FDI, no FDI = massive crisis. Accession talks with the EU = economic stability => more FDI.

FDI is highly overrated and sold to the third world countries as an ultimate panacea while it is not. Has anyone seen a developed country getting overly concerned about FDI?

For much more sustainable development, a country needs to strengthen its economy through local businesses and entrepreneurship. Harness your resources and FDI will come swarming to your country as a topping but never rely on it because it is not reliable, a single bomb blast and FDI will stop or even flow out the country leaving it in an abyss.

However, the route I'm suggesting here is a bit tough and tests the patience and resolve of a nation. It needs years of good practices, monetary discipline, strengthening of the institutions, consistent set of policies and above all a belief in your own people and resources. A long path but much more sustainable and reliable.

My two cents

Unfortunately, Desire does not translate to capability.

If Turkiye had the capability they may done what your alluding to.

It is very obvious to any neutral observer that Turkiye is making plans to move away from the Western block

1) Kicking out Western armies from its military bases

2) Demanding people to be extradited from the West

3) Procuring S-400s from historical rival

4) Evincing interest and making requests in joining Russia-China led SCO block

5) Burying hatchet with Iran

Turkey is only needed to be used against Russia , as a Pawn otherwise Europe cares less about Turkey

Turkey needs to get out of this messi Europe thing and focus on dealing with Muslim countries and enhance its trade

Turkey should demand $$ from European nations who favored war in Syria and supplied weapons to destabalized Syria , refugee from Syria have impacted economy in Turkey so $$ need to be paid

The Turkish folks know it too well!!! What they're passing now is a stop-gap arrangement..
An Urdu proverb is that "Ik dar band, sau dar khula" and transliteration is "One door closes, hundred doors open". We will rise together. It is good that they binding us closer and closer so we enter into the same atomic bond that got weakened in the fog of time.

Nobody gives a shit to EU .... EU is indebted, tried and decadent .. While Europe is rattled by the economic crisis

The recent economic crisis demonstrated many of the weaknesses of EU .. Loser Germany keep crying

Turkey on the other hand is growing and dynamic

Turkish economy is in top 4 fastest growing in the OECD Countries , following China India and Indonesia in the last 8 years

even Turkey was lucky NOT to be in the EU during the financial crisis, since it has recovered much more quickly and robustly than Europe

These are all signs that TURKEY has indeed begun to wake from its centuries-long slumber...And when Turkey wakes, the world will shake again

Turkey shall also leave NATO too. It is a self conflicting interest organisation. NATO is build to counter Russia and now Turkey align itself with Russia and at loggerhead with Western Europe and America.

NATO will always side with Greece if any issue arises. What has Turkey gain from such organisation?
Russia to will side with Greece if any issue arises.

because.. ?
Because Russians are very nationalistic, they consider the Greeks their Orthodox brothers, generally don't like Turks ,so the pressure on Russian leaders from their population to intervene would be unbearable.
