Phased out of service? Not any time soon, there's a Merkava Mk4 Barak upgrade that is still a prototype, and there are no talks about retiring the Merkava Mk3 yet, let alone the Mk4. Also no talks about Mk5, only Carmel project which isn't a replacement for the MBTs.
