Trump claims he will temporarily suspend immigration into US due to coronavirus fears

(CNN)President Donald Trump said late Monday night he will sign an executive order temporarily suspending immigration to the United States as the nation battles the health and economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

"In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!" he tweeted.
It's unclear what mechanism he will use to suspend immigration, how long such a suspension could last or what effect this will have on the operation of US border crossings and on those who already hold green cards.

Trump administration looks to triple fees for some immigration court filings

The White House declined to provide further information on the executive order Monday evening. The Department of Homeland Security didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

And who will harvest rhis season..we all know american wont even if they are dying of hunger...(too lazy)..
And who will man thr hospitals..half of internal medicine residents are IMGs..US graduates just want to do surgery...
And who will run the silicon valley..i mean thats easiest part to fill but all of sudden its impossible...
Congress will block most of this order or it will be challenged in court

Canada should do same. We already have 2.5 million unemployed here because of covet 19. Not a big fan of trump but good move. Us citizens losing job in record numbers. This will ensure American passport holders get priority.

For all indians big lol who dream trump will spank china and reward india. Ya well world will change but it will be more nationalist and focus on taking care of its own citizens. That is what covet will do to humanity.

That's because surgical specialties pay way more than any of their physician counter parts. The only non-surgical highly paid specialists are cardiologists who're almost on par with Ortho. IMG's opt for IM or Peds since they're hardly considered for OB/GYN, EM let alone for surgical specialties and most residency positions in remote community programs are usually not filled during the NRMP match nor SOAP. Hence, several IMG's go for pre-match as well. Infact, even IMG's who did their IM/Peds residency go for a fellowship and there's a dearth of gen peds/gen med physicians and hospitalists out there

It's still kinda hard since majority of the workforce are Asians, be it whatever country they're from and most of em are on H1B/F1-OPT

Will likely have minimal effect without Congressional approval.

Not really..its life style and thinking/brain migraine..internal medicine/hospital medicine make as much if they work..average pay is around 300,000 vs 400,000 for cardiologist, 300,000 for surgeons and 450,000 for orthopedics

Point is if they block mexicans for harvest and doctors from hospitals...americans will die of hunger and hospitals will collapse...

Big tech comapnies might survive but not the agri/medicine fields...its simple not possible to get more doctors or workers..30% of medical students drop off from medical school...and they end up wtih almost a million dollars loan

So fewer and fewer people are going into medicine

IM pays more only if you're in a flyover state in the middle of nowhere. Ortho as in Ortho surgeons is what I meant who're only next to neuro and thorasic/vascular surgeons. Also, the median pay for Cards is $450k per 2019's Doximity report. It's relatively higher in flyover states but I haven't looked at MGMA's most recent reports though. Cards folks on "Student-Doctor Netowork" forum claimed several colleagues making somewhere in the range of $550k-1mn (Interventional and Electrophysiologists)in private practice which is highly possible
