TRADE WITH INDIA NEED OF THE HOUR, SAYS ADVISER TO THE PRIME MINISTER ON COMMERCE RAZAK DAWOOD

P
With PMLN in power, trading with India can be expected, lets see if the planned trading turnover on paper helps with economical gains.
PTI couldn’t bring anything great with its trade policy w,r,t, India.

My take is that Pakistan gets to gain more in trade with India. It would also help contain inflation as India was supplying quite a lot of stuff that falls in basic needs category like vegetables, medicines etc.

@Chak Bamu has brought out few important aspects in his post 207 above.

Visa free travel appears a dream in current scenario but better trade can definitely be achieved to betterment of the region.

We should be working with the world to impose sanctions on the Indians and not encouraging trade.
Really?
Which world powers are these?

.
We shouldn't consider it while the Nazis are in power next door and the RSS ideology is gaining momentum. We should be working with the world to impose sanctions on the Indians and not encouraging trade.
I look for solutions, not more problems.

Normalization of relations will be a death blow to fascists in India. The enmity has created vast space for fascists to create & peddle a narrative of victimhood. This then is weaponized in elections & empowers them in a vicious cycle.

If we are able to negotiate a resolution of Kashmir issue, the whole of South Asia would be a much better place for most people. The suffering minority would be fascists. We should rejoice at the possibility.

That nation has gone as rabid and psycho as a pagal kutta in your local neighborhood

But Pakistanis want to establish "trade relationship" with them

Well that policy is definitely going to end in sure success
Don't strain your mind Areesh. It may implode.

I look forward to strategic & long-term benefits, not who gets more in balance. That is why I support tying resolution of Kashmir with the prospects of trade. Also, both the countries helped each other ease the pain of shortages, whether it be onions or tomatoes, or what-not. Trade is not a one way street.

Look at all the talking the Palestinians did with Israel, look at all the talk Pakistan had with India but all to no avail it has worked opposite with growing genocide on both sides of inside India. Indians will swallow Bangladesh from within, do you want that to happen to Pakistan? Solution is simple, tempting as trade with India may be for the short sighted greeds and corrupts, the best option is to trade Westwards and with China. As I have said many times before India needs CPEC more than we need India to be part of it, we will let them in at the day and time of our choosing and not because of greedy industrialists. India with their Zion masters want to apply the Bangladesh model to Pakistan.

Pakistan is not Palestine, & neither is Kashmir. Your view of Bangladesh does not seem to be correct either.

If you view a situation negatively, you are bound to draw negative conclusions. Trade and People-people contacts are not going to weaken Pakistan.

If Kashmir is no longer a factor, then Pakistan & India have nothing to fight over. Its not like a clash of civilizations or something that must be viewed in apocalyptic terms. If anything, it is important to neutralize the growing fascism.

Anyway Modi is busy preparing genocide in India and doesn't have time to talk about trade with Pakistan unless he wants to end up on the pile of other lynched bodies by the Hindu fanatics.

.
I urge the newly appointed government to investigate the previous regime for backdoor ties with India.

I think indian fascism has little to do with the Kashmir conflict. Its a much bigger thing than that.

Let Pakistan sign Kashmir peace agreement with India and i am sure the RSS machinery will just move onto the next object.

RSS thrives on the hindu sense of inferiority and percieved past opression. It has little to do with Kashmir. Why else would you need to be hostile to a minority that is already marginalized and segregated from the majority hindus?

India is a big market and it's presence cannot be ignored simply because we share so much in common. Our cuisine is so similar that both nations can easily rely on each other for agriculture and livestock however our prime focus should have been on building relationship with central asian countries and expand our market in South East Asia which is practically non-existent

When we are not exploring the markets in other countries, why bother in India?

My thinking is be the top dog of a place rather than be second best somewhere else
You'll be second in south Asia just because of population while other regions you can dominate

Work on connecting Afghanistan, other CAR, they also seem to like pakistan from what I have seen
Afghan, Iranian Balochistan are already part of our cultural, economic sphere

Use these advantages and build- maybe trade with India down the line depending on what IK wants
That's his choice and we'll follow but never trade too much or intergerate to the point you become dependent, people who dream of Canada, US, Mexico type intergeration are actually asking Pak to lose- our country should never be that intergerated cause at that point very reason for existence starts becoming a question mark

Focus on building your own little spheres by economic, cultural, millitary connections

India already has 11 Industrial Corridors under construction, largest of which is the flagship DMIC worth $100 bn which alone is much higher than CPEC. India had long ago rejected the BRI and got into works for an Industrial Corridor within.

ok before all these self styled cartoon "solve" trade issues with india.. i pretty sure all those clowns pushing for trade relation have no working knowledge on the how the indians do business.

indian mentality is to never to give trading partners any good deal. this some thing i experince first hand and talking to my colleagues who also work Global MNCs. Doing business is incredibly difficult except where india has no equivalent industry.

but forget all that.. lets see how india has been receptive to Pakistani products even in the best of time

> Refusing to allow any Pakistani product that might challange it's over protected entities. Designer clothing is one example.. in stories like Khaadi and JJ you see more indians than Pakistanis in stores in Dubai.

> Indians always seem to love to export thier junk to Pakistan but does want to buy any thing from Pakistan. I am not talking about RSS facist fag.. i mean any normal indian. The feel buying any thing from Pakistan is like supporting it's existiance. this is an example of non trade barriers

in short IK got it right, there is no point for trade with india.

200% increase came after we removed Pakistan from MFN status while Pakistan never gave India MFN status. So it was India who gave preferential status to Pakistani goods not the other way round.

And afaik it was Khan who suspended trade with India, it wasn’t India who had suspended trade.

LAHORE: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce, Textile, Industry and Production, and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood has said trade with India is the need of the hour and beneficial to both countries.

Also, Russia wanted to do investment in the field of construction and lay pipelines in Pakistan, he said on Sunday.

“As far as the ministry of commerce is concerned, its position is to do trade with India. And my stance is that we should do trade with India and it should be opened now,” Mr Dawood said in an interaction with media at an exhibition on engineering and healthcare organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.

“The trade with India is very beneficial to all, especially Pakistan. And I support it,” he added.

About the exports to Afghanistan, the advisor said his ministry had increased the number of exporting items to Afghanistan (in Pakistan rupee) to 17. “Still various businessmen are contacting me to include their articles / items in this list as they also want to export their goods to Afghanistan in Pak rupee,” he claimed.

Talking about the trade relations with Russia, Mr Dawood said Pakistan’s exports to Russia and the countries bordering it (central Asia) and others required immediate attention and growth. “So we need to open this trade. And that is why we are going there,” he said, adding that Russia wanted to work in Pakistan in the fields of laying pipelines, constructions etc.

As for exports, he said the textile exports would reach Rs21 billion target in FY 2021-22 ending on June 30. The next year’s textile exports target is Rs27 billion. But the country should diversify its exports since its products range is squeezed. “Our major export destinations are Europe, North America (especially the USA) and China. But our range of products needs to be increased. And I think, our engineering and healthcare-related goods can be added in the list of exports,” he said.

He admitted skyrocketing prices and their adverse impact on the common people. “I agree with you on this issue. But this issue will persist due to imports of oil, raw material, machinery and other goods,” Mr Dawood said.

I can see an economist dominating in him on an Islamist. I am sure that most of our Pakistani friends will disagree with him.

He had put ban on medicines as well but later on removed. The fact of the matter is that India bothers least for trade relationships with pakistan. India exported 50 bn agriculture products last year and merchandise export of 418 bn USD. Services around 250 USD. These figures are more than double the whole economy of Pskistsn and all set to touch 1 tr USD shortly. Pakistan has to take a call considering its own interest.

The thread has outdone its life and should be closed now.
Those few who still hope of trade agreements with india are living in a fool's paradise.
