It is hilarious funny chinese are carrying this paper everywhere and trying to assert supremacy. While India is producing Newtons and Einsteins the Chinese are protesting hey u cant do that see its ILLEGAL coz I got PISA score.

It is the WESTERN media that is always reporting this story, not us.

No Chinese media would report such a headline, not in a million years.

P.S. This BBC article specifically mentions that the students from the rural areas of China show a performance similar to that of Shanghai and other major cities.

I think you should read this, current GDP spending on education in Pakistan is just 0.9% of GDP or 0.58% of total budget, do you really think Pakistan can get its nation out of illiteracy and quality education with such a low monetary allocation on education.

Pakistan has been increasing enrollment of students in schools at a faster rate since 1990 than India. In 1990, there were 66.2% of Pakistanis vs 51.6% of Indians who had no schooling. In 2000, there were 60.2% Pakistanis vs 43% Indians with no schooling. In 2010, Pakistan reduced it to 38% vs India's 32.7%.

The number of private schools grew 10 fold from about 3000 in 1983 to over 30,000 in 2000.

The rate of private school formation far exceeds the rate of population growth. Using numbers for primary school enrollment in 1983 from Jimenez (578,330 students in the four provinces of Pakistan) and our latest numbers we get an overall increase of 937%, far greater than the 57% population increase (in the same four provinces) between 1981 and 1998. Thus the growth in private school enrollment, even after controlling for population growth, is enormous.

Then Musharraf years saw doubling of pubic education spending along with rapid growth in private funding.

Because you are forgetting the contribution from private sector like Madarsa, missionary schools and other private schools. 0.58% is just government spending.

It seems you are providing doctored data.

In 1990, enrollment ratio for primary education in Pakistan was just 51.6% compared to India having 74.18%. India reached enrollment of 99.99% in 2008 whereas Pakistan was at 81.35%.

As for 2010 enrollment in secondary education is 91.79% for India and 75.59% for Pakistan.

There are lots of Indian writers for Mathematics which is being taught in many countries..

It's clear you don't understand the data.

There's a big difference between current enrollment rate and educational achievement of the overall population. Pakistan is currently ahead of India in educational attainment of its 15+ population, according to Harvard researchers Barro & Lee.

As of 2010, there are 380 (vs 327 Indians) out of every 1000 Pakistanis age 15 and above who have never had any formal schooling. Of the remaining 620 (vs 673 Indians) who enrolled in school, 22 (vs 20 Indians) dropped out before finishing primary school, and the remaining 598 (vs 653 Indians) completed it. There are 401 (vs 465 Indians) out of every 1000 Pakistanis who made it to secondary school. 290 (vs 69 Indians) completed secondary school while 111 (vs. 394 Indians) dropped out. Only 55 (vs 58 Indians) made it to college out of which 39 (vs 31 Indians) graduated with a degree.

I can understand what you actually want to mean. By 15-17 year a Child mostly complete primary and secondary education. Since Pakistan don't spend a big amount like India, very few in Pakistan has privilege to complete Primary and secondary education compared to India, it is highly likely that enrollment ratio in University is more than India but graduate percentage is still higher compared to Pakistan.

The only one being stupid is you who decided to bash Indian without going through the thread. Only Shanghai was sampled from China while 2 Indian states was sampled from India. Its not a fair comparison.Instead it should be Shanghai vs Mumbai vs Newyork etc.

Indian employers (atleast in the Govt sector) needs marks, not knowledge..so as long as this mentality prevails rote learning will be encouraged over applications, logic and out of the box thinking.
