Top 10 Nations in Maths, Sciences & Reading

what is PISA test? I have never heard of such tests, or even in not read in national or international newspapers?

I wonder how many students in India actually appear for the PISA test? the percentage appearing may be 0.001 %, so will not accurate sample size for country having population of 1 billion.

Pakistan didn't participated.

Riaz Haq trying seems struggling to prove, Pakistan has better education standard than India with 0.9% of GDP on education, even denied world Bank's data with his blog.:rofl:

Pakistan didn't even participate

And this Pakistani blogger is in full form showing India's rank in PISA tests

The average Indian child taking part in PISA2009+ is 40 to 50 points behind the worst students in the economic superstars. Even the best performers in Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh - the top 5 percent who India will need in science and technology to complete globally - were almost 100 points behind the average child in Singapore and 83 points behind the average Korean - and a staggering 250 points behind the best in the best.

The average child in HP & TN is right at the level of the worst OECD or American students (only 1.5 or 7.5 points ahead). Contrary to President Obama's oft-expressed concerns about American students ability to compete with their Indian counterparts, the average 15-year-old Indian placed in an American school would be among the weakest students in the classroom, says Lant Pritchett of Harvard University. Even the best TN/HP students are 24 points behind the average American 15 year old.

The 2003 TIMSS study ranked India at 46 among 51 countries. Indian students' score was 392 versus average of 467 for the group. These results were contained in a Harvard University report titled "India Shining and Bharat Drowning".

These results are not only a wake-up call for the "India Shining" brigade, but also raise serious questions about the credibility of India's western cheerleaders like Indian-American journalist Fareed Zakaria and New York Times' columnist Tom Friedman.

Haq's Musings: PISA & TIMSS Confirm Low Quality of Indian Education

What about Pakistan??

Proves once again our superiority over Indians in intelligence.

Where is any Indian city/state/province on this list?

We are just smarter.

I think 2012 will include all of china.

Let's see where boasting Indians are on the list, my guess is they will be near the bottom of the list like all other lists.

This list proves the difference in IQ, 105 vs 85.

Well thats yours perception.....

In top 50 universities of world, where china has 3 of its, India also got 2 of hers... (pakistan does not have a single) We believe in "Knowledge suits only with Humility"... This di<k measuring competion was brought in the picture to humiliate fellow Indians... Yes China has surpassed us in the PhD registerations and left us way back in scientific publication...

But now tell me how much patents China have got compared to the western world since the list seems to show Shanghai, I mean China on the top?? Why I am asking this, since so called intellectual if measured in terms of anything then its only the Patents....

With respect to the IQ, yes China, Korea and Japan have the highest mean IQ (105), followed by Europeans and Eskimos having mean IQ of 100, next is eastern europe, north Africa, pakistan, India and Bangladesh, central America having mean IQ of 89.

By the way at present Vishalini, the World’s Youngest MCP and CCNA holds the record for highest IQ (225) beating previous records of Chinese and Pakistani holders... So does that mean Indians have got better IQ than fellow Chinese. You can not generalized population with these IQ levels... There are patches where IQ is more or less in certain group of population..

gyuz Indians are not dumb...

Srinivasa Ramanujan- was an Indian mathematician and autodidact who, with almost no formal training in pure mathematics, made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions. Ramanujan was said to be a natural genius by the English mathematician G.H. Hardy, in the same league as mathematicians like Euler and Gauss.

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman- He was the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930 for the discovery that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the light that is deflected changes in wavelength. This phenomenon is now called Raman scattering and is the result of the Raman effect.

Satyendra Nath Bose- best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, providing the foundation for Bose–Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose–Einstein condensate. A Fellow of the Royal Society.

Acharya Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose- He pioneered the investigation of radio and microwave optics, made very significant contributions to plant science, and laid the foundations of experimental science in the Indian subcontinent. IEEE named him one of the fathers of radio science.

Har Gobind Khorana- Indian biochemist who shared the 1968 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley for research that helped to show how the nucleotides in nucleic acids, which carry the genetic code of the cell, control the cell’s synthesis of proteins.

Sushruta (800 BCE)- Was an ancient Indian surgeon and is the author of the book Suśruta Saṃhitā, in which he describes over 300 surgical procedures, 120 surgical instruments and classifies human surgery in eight categories. He lived, taught and practiced his art on the banks of the Ganges in the area that corresponds to the present day city of Varanasi in North India.
Because of his seminal and numerous contributions to the science and art of surgery he is known by the title "Father of Surgery". Much of what is known about this inventive surgeon is contained in a series of volumes he authored, which are collectively known as the Sushruta Samhita.

Bhāskara (1114–1185)- Bhāskara's work on calculus predates Newton and Leibniz by half a millennium. He is particularly known in the discovery of the principles of differential calculus and its application to astronomical problems and computations. While Newton and Leibniz have been credited with differential and integral calculus, there is strong evidence to suggest that Bhāskara was a pioneer in some of the principles of differential calculus. He was perhaps the first to conceive the differential coefficient and differential calculus.

Charaka- Charaka, sometimes spelled Caraka, born c. 300 BC was one of the principal contributors to the ancient art and science of Ayurveda, a system of medicine and lifestyle developed in Ancient India. He is referred to as the Father of Medicine.

And there may be many more who would have contributed a lot...

Likewise there might be Chinese and even Pakistani scientists who have contributed excellently in the science and technology....

We might not be best, but surely such type of useless bashing really hurts my pride... Please consider my sincere request not to question educational system of a nation just for the sake...

Intelligent people dont not fun of others...

India has the Newtons and the Einsteins. We keep them. China can keep the toppers of PISA.

LOL! Indian type of "Newtons" and "Eisteins" are very striking: they are capable of neither reading nor doing proper math.

Looks like Indians copy/pasted the names of Newton and Einstein to their dull boys but don't have the essence of those science giants. Indians are therefore only bragging they have those giants and defaming them at the same time.

Just like Indian only copy/pasted the name western democracy but don't have the essence of the democracy. Indians are therefore only bragging they have the democracy and defaming it at the same time.

So if someone is not going to sit for PISA he loses the right to become next EINSTEIN or NEWTON. Chinese are so funny.

It is hilarious funny chinese are carrying this paper everywhere and trying to assert supremacy. While India is producing Newtons and Einsteins the Chinese are protesting hey u cant do that see its ILLEGAL coz I got PISA score.

But Indians are sitting for PISA and at the bottom.

Probably you should call quits next time so you can keep bragging your Eisteins and Newtons in vaccume.

I usualy have teleconference with the chinese Vendors from Shangdong, Dongying, Tianjin, Beijing, I was suprised to understand that our fellow Chinese counterparts in the field of Pharmaceuticals and Chemical research were unable to communicate with us properly.

The reason being given that Chinese could not understand ENGLISH and our intermediate was a non technical person... Now how a country with so much high ranking and knowledgable scientist (am not making sarcasting statement) could not communicate.... We can understand that indegenous knowledge can be in Chinese for example tradiational Chinese medicine, but what about thoes western medicines.... If they can produce the ones but can not explain about them... It was really very awkward for us...

Dude, stop thinking that India is the world and that those can't communicate with Indians with thick Indian accent = can't communicate with the world. LOL! get it right logic! In addition, can't communicate with your Indians in English doesn't mean anything: the Chinese are proud of their own language that is so unique and beautiful.

Chinese medicine is not an easy stuff to explain. It's a complete joke if somebody says he can completely explain Chinese madicine and theories behind. That deosn't mean it is inferior. How many people can explain their god(s) if they are religious? Does that mean their respective god(s) is inferiror?

On the other side, western medicine is relatively simple, in substance and dynamics, and it is precisely the week point that it is too much simplified to often ignore the interplay between the medicine, the food taken, the taker's body situation, the body's activities, the seasons and the timing.

In deed, it is warkward for someone, but will be considered natural if you have your knowledge base broadened.

so many excuses in this tread,

"hurr durr, fake, unrepresentative, i dont care about this test, etc etc"
some groups of people just cant take it, acknowledge it then move on and improve next time around, no wonder these people did poorly.

This is the official website of IITB... Am not lying mate... And why I have posted about Technical institutes and universities because we are discussing about Mathematics and sciences...

By the way your data about Chinese universities amongst top 50 is somewhat controvertial.. the ranking Tsinghua University is shown considerably high in some surveys where as in some surveys Peking University and Hongkong univeristy has higher rank..
