The Iranian Ground Forces revealed new vehicles on 13 April including the Tiam tank, which appears to be a fusion of US and Chinese tanks.

The Tiam's hull is that of a M47M, a variant of the US M47 that uses the engine from the M60A1 tank. The M47M was produced in Iran from the early 1970s and Iran unveiled a modified version called the Sabalan in April 2014. The Sabalan was armed with what looked like a 105 mm L7-type rifled gun instead of the original 90 mm.

The Tiam also has a 105 mm, but it is mounted in what appears to be the turret from a Chinese Type 59/69 tank. Although based on the T-55, some versions of the Type 59 and Type 69 were armed with an L7-type 105 mm gun instead of the 100 mm fitted to the Soviet tank.

The superstructure of the M47M hull appears to have been raised to accommodate the larger turret basket of the Type 59.

Also unveiled were a self-propelled 57 mm air defence system called the Bahman and a nuclear, biological, and chemical detection (NBC) vehicle called the Shahram.

The Bahman appeared to consist of a cut-down turret from a Soviet ZSU-57-2 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun mounted on the back of a KrAZ 6x6 truck. The system lowers four hydraulic stabilisers before firing.

The Shahram is a BTR-60 armoured personnel carrier fitted with NBC sensors and protection systems.

Various other vehicles and weapon systems were seen during the 13 April event, including several refurbished Shir (Iranian version of the Chieftain) and T-62 tanks.

The new Karrar tank was not unveiled. Iran's defence minister revealed the existence of the tank in February, saying it was at least as capable as the Russian T-90.

Army commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told journalists during the 13 April event that the Karrar will be "unveiled this or next month".

As long as they stay on the other side of the fence. :)
well, to be more accurate, they once were in your side and went the other side, they may miss you again, the way they missed Europeans.
and when that happened, all of your tanks altogether can't stop one of them blowing himself in the middle of streets.

Suicide bombings in last months got nothing to do with ISIS they all done by PKK.

Actually I like it more than T-72!
You don't need such an upgrade for crew practice.

our commanders aren't wealthier than those who send these junks to secure their borders:

It's not a matter of who is wealthier! It's whether you want to put a band aid on it or truly solve a problem! And this is nothing more than a cheap band aid!

To top that off when Iran shows this tank and claims that it's new Iranian tank every other weapon that Iran is actually producing comes under question! Call a spade a spade!

Using what limited funding they have on improving existing platform is really efficient, however the M-47 tanks fleet are extremely ancient and way past their live expectancy. Me think this is a waste of money and effort. Perhaps opening more production lines for the Zulfiqar tank and spare parts will decrease the price per unit. I can understand M-60's Patton's, T-72's and Chieftains but really M-47 are simply absolute at this point, no upgrade will ever make it relevant on the battlefield.

. . . .
money!
besides, different tanks for different threats.
also if this tank can really withstand a TOW2B missile as the writer suggests, then it's not useless!

What threat is it capable of countering Saudia arabia,Israel or Turkey all these countries have good weapons maybe it will be useful with your Hizbullah and other militias and good against countries like Iraq who is already in pieces and Afghanistan

Now you people are getting sanction free go for T-90's and as much modern equipment you can get
