They are patriotic songs. Noor Jehan dominated the radio playlists during much of the wars. A lot of soldiers used to listen to her on their transistor radios dug up in trenches.

It was a media war of those times. Raising up morale and also making sure the Indian soldiers heard it. She sung in punjabi a lot in those days, especially a song called "Ay putr hitaan tay nahi biktay" (These sons aren't sold at every street corner).
