What's new

The US is a first-world nation with a third-world rail system

.
A poster with some ideas? lol That fervent anti-American on these forums is a guy with ideas for you- while you live off our welfare in the US? here's some advice - add the word 'self' in front of that 'respect' you have for him and go home

Millions of americans do business with china on a daily basis. No american will respect a $hitty indian like you with his gutter caste ideas , leaching on america but advocating wars and hate which he himself wont participate or care. America has billions of trade relations with china and regularly deal with them . There are political differences and a decent guy hopes for peaceful resolution.

Calling me ani-american like you call muslims and dalits in your india as anti-national. It wont be too long when everyone figures out you disgusting snakes slithering in america and the hate you bring. By the way a lot of them do.
And if china makes it richer. You guys will make a beeline there anyway and start hating on america from there. Indeen anybody can rent you @rent4country fellows.

The problem is we really have no demand for high speed rail that is worth eminent domaining the route.

Our #1 busiest air route is LA to NYC

Let's look at China's longest HSR route

Beijing to Guangzhou: All aboard the world's longest high-speed rail route
View attachment 759476

Let's see how far that goes
View attachment 759478

How long does that train take?
View attachment 759481

So to get a little more than halfway across the country is about 8 hours (if perfectly straight).
Let's say it would take 14 hours to do the whole trip to NYC.

How many people do you really think would take it compared to the unfathomable amount it would cost to buy the land. Sure take it once or twice as a novelty but after that people will be back to planes

Let's try another popular route.
NYC to Orlando

1543/2298=67%
8hr*67%=5.36 hours to get to Orlando.
It takes less than 3 by plane.

3 hr flight + 2 hours airport time + 30 min to an hr traveling to the airport which is usually at the outskirts of city. Restrictions, security, luggage, uncomfortable small seats. Weather, delays, Fluctuating Ticket prices, airline shenanigans.

I Don’t know about you, but with HSR crossing 600 hm/hr, I would opt for HSR.

HSR would take 10 hrs to cover that area w/ multiple stops. heh

why do you think the security wait will be less for a HSR train? They have security scanning checks in Chinese HSR stations just like the airport. We’’d probably eventually end up implementing it here too.

In Boston the airport is more convenient than getting to both our train stations.
Just dropping people off can be a chore .
@Gomig-21. Trains?

@Gomig-21. Trains?

Only if I want to take my sweet time and see the country side on a vacation trip with the family etc., and even then, I might opt to drive instead as I would have more freedom to chose which way to go and where to stop.

If in a hurry, get on a plane.

I think this falls into the “12 items or less” mentality with Americans. If we have 5 items and there’s 10 people in line with full carriages many will simply skip buying anything so they don’t have to wait in line.

Hence they had to implement 12 items lines to keep customers.

sure we’ll checkout the long route once but then we’ll go back to the 12 items line

LoL
The famous BOEING jetliners that are CRASHING all the time.

60% of the world travels on Boeing jetliners. Hey China's Air Force one is a Boeing jetliner
Dude this is not some poverty stricken country where you need to make huge justifications.

It is expensive to maintain high speed rail over temperature extremes of the Midwest

Even the Portland-San Francisco high speed rail line will traverse sparsely populated areas. the maintenance costs are prohibitive

the analogy between jetliners and high speed rail is between landline communications and wireless communications.

The rail system is still better as most of the system is used for freight. If you have seen American airports and their airline service, its so much worse that Third World. The airports are dilapidated, the aircraft are in bad shape, the service is compete sh*t and rude.

There are plenty on east coast. Washington dc to cleveland or Philadelphia to columbus ohio.. pittsburgh to boston. They all have urban populations exceeding million with relatively poor or expensive air connections.

i’m from Philadelphia. Relatively easy drives to cities to the north of me, such as New York City and Boston.

Baltimore and Washington DC to the south of me.
Tell me when you do that, I'll come over and tour the USA with ya. 8-)

Absolutely! A genuine invitation to take a trip across some of America should you ever visit here.
