The below HYPER LINK explains what makes the MKI one the best combat planes in the world.

It talks about the technology that RUSSIA incorporated AND THE additional added features of india MKI version over all other flankers.

It confirms dog fighting results against F15 F16 F18 & MIRAGE 2000-5.

MOST important it explains how USA improved F18 TO BLOCK E/F anf F16 TO BOCK 60 simply looking and learning from RUSSIAN FLANKER SERIES.

Su-30MKI compared with the F-16C and F-18E/F

Maybe the americans built the JSF and Raptor by looking and learning from the flanker series:woot:

Su-30MKI compared with the F-16C and F-18E/F
Wrong...The SU-30MKI's capabilities came long after the developments of the F-16 and F-18 even in terms of basic aerodynamics and the article admitted it...
The Su-30MKI’s structural and aerodynamic configuration incorporates the latest research and technological achievements. It is a triplane (a combination of conventional design with foreplanes) with a lifting fuselage and developed wingroot extensions. The interaction of the foreplanes and wingroot extensions creates a controlled vortex effect similar to that of the adaptive wing. The F-16 and F-18 designs were developed in the early and mid-1970s.
Looks like the Russians and the Indians picked and chose the best of both US designs at least a decade later. How about if I compare the P-51D against the older P-40 of the Flying Tigers?

What else?
This is why the latest modernization programs, which gave birth to the F-16C Block 60 and F-18E/F versions, involved the increase of wing span, fuselage length and control surface areas and significantly changed the structural configuration and general layout of their basic versions.
If the authors of this so-called 'analysis' imply that the US modernized its F-16 and F-18 basic airframes BECAUSE of the development of the SU-30MKI, they are dreaming. They have NOTHING to support their arguments. The basic F-16 airframe was designed with modularity in mind so the aircraft was ALREADY amenable to modernizations and upgrades. Same for the F-15 and the F-18 airframes. Talk about desperation propaganda by the Russians.
Engines with thrust-vectoring nozzles enable the Su-30MKI to perform such maneuvers as «cobra» vertical reverse, roll in «bell» turn in «cobra» etc. In these maneuvers, an angle of attack can reach 180o. These are not purely aerobatic maneuvers: this supermaneuverability can be effectively used in combat. As for the F-16 and F-18 aircraft, their maximum angles of attack are 30o and 40o, respectively, and they cannot use armament at supercritical angles of attack.
The 'cobra' maneuver was ROUTINELY performed by John Boyd...

John Boyd - USAF, The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of Air Warfare
Boyd was famous for a maneuver he called "flat-plating the bird." He would be in the defensive position with a challenger tight on his tail, both pulling heavy Gs, when he would suddenly pull the stick full aft, brace his elbows on either side of the cockpit, so the stick would not move laterally, and stomp the rudder. It was as if a manhole cover were sailing through the air and then suddenly flipped 90 degrees. The underside of the fuselage, wings, and horizontal stabilizer became a speed brake that slowed the Hun from 400 knots to 150 knots in seconds. The pursuing pilot was thrown forward and now Boyd was on his tail radioing "Guns. Guns. Guns."
This 'cobra' maneuver was done with an airframe that is nowhere the aerodynamics sophistication of modern day fighters. It require extraordinary skills from an extraordinary flyer and Boyd was one of these few. Modern day fighters incorporated many of these required human skills into the airframes as our understandings of aerodynamics increases and wing-root extensions is one of them. So for the Russians to proclaim that their airframes and pilots are extraordinary from this maneuver is either ignorance or petty jealousy from being behind all these decades.
The role of avionics in aircraft combat employment is ever growing. A number of the Su-30MKI fighter’s subsystems (navigation and communications equipment, cockpit instruments) are being developed jointly with foreign companies. Consequently, these subsystems will be technologically on a par with the best foreign counterparts. The superiority of the Su-30MKI’s radar in terms of target detection range, scanning sectors and jamming immunity makes it highly effective in long-range air combat.
No supporting figures. Meaningless claims.
Another distinguishing feature of the Su-30MKI is its high versatility. It can be used as an air defense interceptor, a strike aircraft or a flying command post. It can be used as a leader aircraft of combined fighter groups (including those of light fighters), ensuring their cooperation and concentration of efforts.
So what else is new? The F-18 Super Hornet is doing it.

In addition, the SDU-10MK digital fly-by-wire control system makes it possible to use the Su-30MKI as a combat trainer.
Only now has the Russians got around to using fly-by-wire?

This so-called 'analysis' is nothing more than a feeble attempt to boost the image of Russian aircrafts for export. Nothing more.

Just the fact that the "Vayu Sena's" crown jewel was compared to American planes designed in the 70s to gain absolute qualitative superiority over Soviet planes of the 50s and 60s should be enought to tell most intelligent readers what the level of thinking is here. Brilliant analysis posted on Tripod.

Su-30MKI is a formidable plane, but let's not get carried away with the praise. It ranks somewhere in the middle of the pack in terms of capabilities for previous generation fighters.

Lastly, the claim that the Americans looked to the Russians for ideas is laughable. During the cold-war, there were many things that the Americans learnt from the Soviets, but the design of aircraft was certainly not one of them. In aircraft design, the Soviets lagged behind, however, they lead the space-race for a long time and had more advanced space capabilities until quite late, so they weren't too ticked about the aerospace industry. A book on history would be much better reading than blogs on Tripod, and it might just make you sound slightly smart, maybe.

surely there has been a lot of ideas exchange .....and wing root extention came from the f-16 ..its also a well known fact that f-15 was build to counter mig-25 foxbat and it was largely based on it too ....and all of the above posts are wrong saying su-27 was based on f-16 or 18 ...ITS FIRST PROTOTYPE WAS LARGELY BASED ON F-14 AND IT WAS NOT WHAT WE SEE TODAY .....soviets were in love with the f-14 and they got a few of these babies from iran ...guys this topic of aerodynamic design being copied has been discussed on a lot of forums ...and there is no need to start on here too

The only thing the MIG-25 and the F-15 have in common is the overall lifting body planform. Remember that Belenko defected to the West (Japan) with a MIG-25 back in Sep 1976. We took the MIG apart and the knowledge gave US a continuing qualitative edge up to the ignoble and spectacular collapse of the Soviets.

Some times the americans here and everywhere have to come out of the boxes and think positive soviet designs have been successful don't brand soviet designs as obsolete we know how the americans got blue prints from the germans calling the other one as copycat won't do good look into ur own acts..SU-27 has earned its named and respect "The Legendary" as it is called so did the Mig 25, soviets remotely didn't consider the american designs and went ahead with their successful designs and today u can see SU-30/33/35...lol ok so u agree u are copycats and stealer..and comon gambit don't be childish calling Russians tech as outdated>>This so-called 'analysis' is nothing more than a feeble attempt to boost the image of Russian aircrafts for export. Nothing more.
this is the most childish statement by you this is a professional forum soviets are the only one to go head to head with you in airpower you don't even have clue what is inside even the russian upgraded SU-27s,SU-33/SU-35 talk about building castles in the air..u forgot the most lethal systems soviet SAMS u got for soviets brought down ur U-2 u forgot same soviet systems used by Serbians brought in dark ur F-117:) have fun now they have something to work on the same way u stripped down MIG-25 except Russians have American stealth material up their sleeves..

u forgot same soviet systems used by Serbians brought in dark ur F-117:)
I laugh every time anyone bring up that event. Here are some facts: NATO flew about 21000 sorties over Yugoslavia, of those about 5000 were Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD), meaning the fighters were often low and slow to entice missile launches, and about 60 B-2 sorties flown from Whiteman AFB from continental US (CONUS). So why is it that there were only two aircrafts shot down, an F-16 and an F-117? Is it logical that if whatever it was that worked so well for one F-117, a 'stealth' aircraft, it should work even better against 'non-stealth' aircrafts? The B-2 is a larger aircraft than the F-117, so why not even just one B-2 was shot down? Two aircrafts out of 21000 is not a combat record to boast about. I know the technical details of basic radar principles to completely debunk this story. The Serb missile battery commander, Zoltan Dani, did what is called 'spray and pray' and got lucky. No skills involved.

o deary gambit the whole point is an F117 brought down into pieces went into the hands of russians and its material is studied has been studied and lets look forward to what comes out from Russian hanger in few years time..and the whole world laughed when a F117 was brought down where it was low high slow or fast doesn't matter it has been brought down in the dark the night hawk name is laughable after that incident serbs did what they had to learn to accept the fact something has been brought by any means or tactics..and everytime someone talks about F117 i laugh back to retirement home..:)

Two kills out of 21000 sorties. It is US who has the last laugh. Spray and pray is what happened.

finally its downed 200 or 50,000 sorties its brought down u laughted last time when u got ur hands on MIG-25 so did russians laughed when the got their hands on dead bird..move on when something has been brought down learn to accept rather then making ways out to back up your commentary..ah i wonder when F117 was brought down US laughed ah no problem just one bird fallen lol does US act like that? boy ur not US Govt US is serious and committed even if a single bird is downed after 21,000 sorties don't make a S...bag out of US Govt when it comes to Armed Forces ur one in million civilian...and on this forum:) now spray and pray..

Dude do you understand how these things work? The F-117 is not even in use anymore.... BTW your post makes no sense

Buddy...When you said this earlier...

I knew right off you do not know what you are talking about. You swallowed without chewing the garbage that the Russians, the Chinese and the Serbs throw up.

The F-117's low Radar Cross Section (RCS) value has more to do with the aircraft's planform, meaning shaping, than from the Radar Absorbent Material (RAM) painted on the surface. The mathematics for that planform remains top secret and the aircraft's wreckage will continue to keep those figures secret. All the material analysis will be for naught because the current generation of US 'stealth' aircrafts uses RAM only on the leading edges of the aircrafts, not throughout the body like the F-117. And the current generation, once again, relies mainly on shaping to affect radar signals impacting the aircrafts.

In contrast this with the MIG-25...We had an intact aircraft and the pilot who WILLINGLY reveal to US its secrets, in design and operations. We ended up knowing far more about Soviet aviation from the MIG-25 than anyone will learn from the WRECKAGE of the F-117.

So you go on continue to belief the crap the Serbs feed you. We have no problems letting the Russians and the Chinese underestimate US.
