The Problems being faced by the Pakistani Young Diaspora and 2nd gen

Out of curiosity what is your 'race'? Do you look at yourself as the 'brown guy' and if you do, does that equate you to Indians and the rest?
I have called myself both desi and brown ...not in the same sentence coz I find it synonyms ... :pop:

What if you are not brown lol assuming all of Pakistan wants to be with this "Brown" Indian crap
Indians arent brown...They are chocolate :p:

hen I type that I mean nothing wrong with being ourselves
But that is the very essence, the crux of the malaise that you exposed in a very clear manner even when you might not have intended to. The symptom of the malaise is that. I mean who is "ourselves" is the central to the issue. I mean are we?

  • A Muslim
  • A Pakhtun
  • A Punjabi
  • A Kashmiri
  • A Mirpuri
  • A Pakistani
  • A Asian
  • A Brown guy
  • etc etc
This causes a national schizoprenia which manifests itself in sp mamy ways. One of the major effects is confusion above the normative that other diaspora go through.

YUP...even when you apply for job and fill some "diversity info"...There is always the British Pakistani or Pakistani...SO either way you still fall under the same category....Not sure why some are in denial
I used to work with some british born who were pretending to be white by avoiding talking about Pakistan, speaking and replying in English only even when they don't hesitate to speak Urdu with their parent at home but they think it will look them bad if they say few Urdu words in front of their gora white friends but funny part was that gora used to associate them with Pakistan whenver we had some conversation about Pakistan..its just insecurity complex

.
You touched on why the confusion. Other migrants will frame it as "nothing wrong with being Turkish, nothing wrong with being Indian, nothing wrong with being Iranian, nothing wrong with being Indonesian".

But we use the 'D' synonym or some other alternative .....
Well, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being Turk, Malaysian, Indonesian and whatnot!

Some other alternative?

New generation of Pakistani kids are insecure. They want to be multicultural instead of hanging out with their own. I have white friends, but there comes a point where I realize that I don't share the same mindset as them. Hanging out with them would mean having to go to a bar and drinking. Even going out to eat with them sucks, because I don't even like eating the same stuff that they do. I'm glad I was born in Pakistan, otherwise maybe I would have been a ....like the new generation, but then again I still probably wouldn't have. I'm just too dominant to have my identity repressed unlike the joker Pakistanis here.

Its not just hanging it out with Whites with other Muslims can be a problem as many Turks,Arabs,Persians, Balkans, and Albanians arent that religious as Pakistanis as for Multiculturalism its a scam man another way to exploit cheap labor and to destroy countries

What I mean't was other diaspora look at themselves in clear, identifiable terms like Turk, Iranian, Indonesian, Indian etc.

We don't. We fall on host of identifiers and use vague synonyms like 'desi' etc

I am half Photohari, half punjabi born in Karachi living on the Seraiki belt. How would you classify me?
Mmm "Pakistani"?

Yup no matter how White you wanna act, you will always be desi/ brown for them!

I never hid my brown self. I openly and proudly used to say I am Pakistani. I found people would approach and respect me more for being real to myself! They would discuss politics, culture and food! And they all agreed that DESI food was best! :D

.
:o:

Blasphemy! Desi is synonym for Brown! Sub continent which you cant change! If you wanna further categorize sure...

Even Trump thinks Pakistans in middle east.

We have middle Eastern names.

The word in itself probably started with some mean joke full of contempt for forgotten ways of Home as the diaspora swam the river of Babylon.

But if ghee anday and kabootar can be Desi. Who says @Divergent is not desi

or become "westoxified" and then get shamed by your own family for being "un-Desi"

I never hid myself as Pakistani but I hate the Desi Tag tbh its too broad and people here think Desi is some Indian term which I want nothing to associate with Gangas

Mmm "Pakistani"?
I mean even the Whites dont ask me details as much as Pakistanis...

I remember I went to my first Pakistani dinner "alone" (being independent)....Everyone wanted to know what my "background" was...Always a tough question for me :(

Mmm "Pakistani"?
Yea, I am that rare species that crosses more than 1 border [provincial border]

People belong to different ethnic groups reside in four different neighbour countries so its natural for them to share same languages and terms

Bnegali in India/bangldesh
Punjabi/Sindi in India/Pakistan
Pahstun/Baloch in Pakistan/Afghanistan

so very silly to object on word desi and just give India all right to own it when we used word desi with many things as mentioned in previously post

Well I had some who thought same and I was like nahh all are desi...just means one who belongs to the land...Native :p: And covers all of sub continent...You dont need to be shy to explain further. Not everyone has a PhD in every subject on the planet!
