It is a great sign to see our leaders meeting to address the regional security and stability. It is the need of the hour to stand united and negate the growing threat of terrorism through shared cooperation and coordination. The terrorists are not leaving any stone unturned in their bid to destabilize the region, especially Pakistan. The attack on the Army Public School last month has left the nation shocked and stunned. At the same time, the brave nation of Pakistan refuses to bow down to enemies of peace. Given the seriousness of the situation, our leaders also realize the importance of working together to combat the growing threat of terrorism. Army chief General Raheel Sharif met United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Lloyd J Austin III at the General Headquarter on Monday. As reported, during the meeting, matters of mutual interest including bilateral defense cooperation and overall regional security situation with special emphasis on Afghanistan were discussed. Secretary of State John Kerry also said the U.S. was committed to deepening its security relationship with Pakistan in order to eliminate threats in the border area and elsewhere. Secretary of State John Kerry also visited Pakistan and met with the officials this week. The recent meetings between Afghanistan and Pakistan officials also suggest that both nations realize the importance of working together to curtail violence from their common border. As we are witnessing a surge in violence in the Pakistan and Afghanistan region, it is heartening to see that our nations are coming together to counter the growing threat of terrorism.

How do you see the improving relationship between the U.S., Afghanistan and Pakistan helping in regards to our shared peace objectives?

Get real. You cannot afford to abandon this alliance as America is your cash cow. $30 billion since 9/11 is a lot of dosh that has kept your economy afloat, without which you would have sunk without a trace.

Secondly, America knows where the moolah lies. India is huge importer of American weapons and equipment which in turn provides jobs to thousands of Americans. Trade is zooming between the two countries which is a win-win situation for both. In contrast, Pakistan is nowhere in the picture.

So it would be foolish to equate the relationship of India and Pakistan with the US. If you think Pakistan has the power to stop the Indo-US nuclear deal, then you're living in the world of delusions. No one cares a fig what Pakistan demands. As Clinton said, "It's all about the economy, stupid"!

This is a canard. Aid is maximum $18 billion till now. We lost more than $100 billion in the war. The ideal that Pakistan has gained something in the American war on terror other than fighting the mullah mindset which needs to be eliminated regardless is an argument constantly forwarded by Indians and now picked up by the western media. We should really resolve our terms of engagement with the US at least. India in the last 5 years has become the USA's largest buyer of weapons, something we should be protesting.

If they want Pakistan they should abandon india first. We need a stronger foreign policy.

The civil ties may be terrible now (mostly because of Obama's insistence on being pro-India and anti-Pakistan), but military ties have always remained strong. Even during times of crises, PA and USAA have always remained in touch, and have largely ignored concerns from civilian leaders. That's not to say that the PA and USAA trust each other; indeed, the Abottabad incident, along with the killing of 24 PA soldiers, and the Raymond Davis incident have made each side wary of the other, but they remain committed to cooperate, despite what the civilian leadership is led to believe.

If Obama was to cut off all contact with Pakistan, and get rid of diplomatic relations, the USAA would still continue it's relationship with PA, at least in secret.

My worry is US biases may come in the way. Lets go into the past. In 1974 India tested its nukes, no sanctions. In 1998 Pakistan did and we were sanction. My worry is something along the lines of the Presler amendment coming back. When they do not need us, they will abandon us. This is guaranteed. They did it in the past after we cleared the soviets for them. Pakistan must have China at that time. In fact its time to start shifting to China now, right away.

$100 billion??? This is a fictional figure conjured up by some in Pakistan! Can you give us a breakdown of this astronomical sum you've supposedly spent? No you can't because this is pure fiction.

And you say Pakistan must stop the U.S. arms sales to India? Really? And this while you guys continue to get enormous arms aid from China at discounted rates - from aircraft to missiles to nukes? What a joke!

And there's no hyphenation in the American relationship between India and Pakistan. There's absolutely no question of the U.S. opting to sever relations with India for the sake of Pakistan. India is the second fastest growing economy in the world and the 10th largest whereas Pakistan is nowhere in the picture. Indo American trade stands at $70 billion slated to reach $100 billion by 2016 whereas Pak American trade stands at a measly $5 billion!!

So would America dump India for the sake of Pakistan? Not by a long shot. You'd be living in cuckoo-land if you think so.

Pakistan must have China at that time. In fact its time to start shifting to China now, right away.

You've been riding piggy-back since the past four decades - from weapons to aircraft to missiles to nukes to infrastructure worth billions! China is your all weather friend - deeper than the oceans, higher than the mountains, sweeter than honey and stronger than steel! And you say you have to start shifting to China now, right away?? You already have - decades ago!
