Why not to miss the Indian Formula One GP 2012

The 17th race of the 2012 Formula One World Championship will be the country's biggest entertaining spectacle and CarTrade.com has taken the initiative and mustered some interesting points as in why not to miss the most expensive global sporting event.

First of all, the 2012 Formula One Airtel Indian Grand Prix will witness six previous World Champions fighting for the pole position, comprising Michael Schumacher, Kimi Räikkönen, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. With such inspiring winning prospects, the Indian Formula One Grand Prix will leave the spectators holding their breath as they witness the nerve wrenching contest at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), the venue of the Grand Prix.

The three day entertainment fixture has been scheduled to take place from October 26 to October 28, 2012. The initial two days will mark the practise sessions and race qualifiers, respectively, while the final race event will commence at 1500 hours (IST) on Sunday October 28, 2012.

The 17th round of the 2012 Formula One World Championship season is going to be the Formula One legend Michael Schumacher's last race on Indian soil. The intense rivalry on the circuit between the six participating ex-champions is going to be missed from next season as Michael Schumacher announced his retirement from the globally renowned motor racing spectacle at the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. Accordingly, all Indian Schumacher fans will be grappling for the race tickets, in order to see the German Formula One exponent for the final time.

Further, the championship is at a critical point as currently, Ferrari team's Fernando Alonso leads the 2011 World Champion Sebastian Vettel of the Red Bull Racing-Renault team by just four points. The battle for top position will make the Indian Grand Prix more exciting and definitely ups the thrill quotient of the event, besides giving the spectators goosebumps by even thinking about the race. Evidently, Vettel won the 2011 edition of the Indian Formula One Grand Prix and many sport enthusiasts believe that the 25 year old German driver is clearly the frontrunner for this year's race as well.

The 5.14 km BIC racetrack is considered among the world's fastest Formula One circuits with average speed corresponding to 208 kmph and most of the drivers repeatedly exceed the 330 kmph speed mark. The race features 60 adrenaline pumping and nerve cracking laps of enormous speed, where each race driver requires a time bracket of just one minute and 24 seconds for traversing the entire track length. The Buddh International Circuit has been designed by Jaypee Sports International Limited (JPSI), a subsidiary of Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL), and can accommodate MotoGP races as well.

Hoping for a dominent race weekend for Lewis Hamilton in Korea and India so we can restart his title campaign that has been ruined by his inempt team. Then we can have a Vettel-Hamilton duel for the title. Right now Hamilton should be leading the rankings but has been robbed of it through no fault of his own.

Track changes add to thrill of Indian GP

Greater Noida: Fans attending the Oct 26-28 Indian Grand Prix will see a handful of track changes at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) including at the 'famous' turn 8 which caused Felipe Massa's accident during the inaugural edition.

The length of the kerbs at turn 6, 7, 8 and 9 have been increased from 5 to 15 metres, leaving little room for the drivers to take short cuts to get back on the racing line. The tweaking has given a "sausage" look to the kerbs, all of which stand at 25mm.
"We made changes to the kerbs after the recommendations of the FIA. The track is completely ready for the racing weekend. It should be a more exciting race than last year with the championship wide open," said Farhan Vora, in charge of the race operations.
The run-off area at turn 10 and 11 of the 5.12 track has been extended by a metre with the gravel replacing the astro-turf. Efforts have also been made to ensure greener surroundings at BIC where dust was a major concern last time. An estimated one lakh saplings have been planted around the facility, which looks a lot prettier now.
For ensuring a dust-free track, Vohra said: "We have hired special mechanised dusters from Bahrain and these will start working after Oct 15 to clean up the dust particles from all over the track." The needs of the spectators has also been kept in mind by Jaypee Group, the promoters of the race.
The main hassle for the fans was reaching BIC. But the organisers promise a smooth ride for the commuters this time around. The car parking facility at BIC has been increased from 15,000 to 21,000 besides space for 1,000 two-wheelers. More than 200 chartered buses from Noida City Centre Metro station will be available as a Park and Ride facility.
Access will be provided to Delhi-NCR Radio cabs to enter the circuit with a dedicated parking area and the shuttles, like last year, will be in service to drop spectators at entry gates.

BIC all geared up for 2nd Indian Grand Prix

GREATER NOIDA: With just over a couple of weeks to go for the second edition of the Indian Grand Prix, the organisers on Thursday showcased their preparedness to host the sporting extravaganza at the Buddh International Circuit.

The organisers Jaypee Sports International Limited (JPSL), said a few changes were made to the circuit in accordance with the FIA guidelines to make the racing event more competitive.

The kerb length at turn eight and nine has been extended from 5m to 15m and the height of all the kerbs across the circuit now at 25 mm.

It will also incorporate an astroturf lining at turn two and three and seven and eight to provide additional safety at run-off areas.

"Some minor changes have been made to the run off areas that will enhance the overall experience of the race," the general manager race operations, Farhan Vohra told reporters.

"We have extended the width of few turns from 5m to 15m and the height of the kerbs have been raised to 25mm, to discourage the drivers from using any shortcuts," he added.

Last year Ferrari's Felipe Massa had expressed his discomfort with the kerbs at turn eight and nine after he broke his suspension, but the organisers said that the FIA has rather directed them to increase the kerb length to avoid the drivers from taking any shortcuts.

Meanwhile, Vohra also said that they have hired dusters from Bahrain to clean up the track.

"We have hired special mechanised dusters from Bahrain and these will start working after 15th October to clean up the minutest of dust particles from all over the track which cannot be washed with regular dusters," Vohra said in response to a question about what measures they were taking to clean up the track.

During the inaugural edition, complaints were made that the track was too dusty, however, Vohra said with amount of construction going on around the circuit that was bound to happen.

As part of the elaborate plans, the parking capacity has been raised to about 21, 000 private cars and 1,000 motorcycle this time, senior vice-president traffic and security JPSI, Qamar Ahmad said.

He also mentioned that apart from the private cars, more than 200 pre-booked chartered buses from the Noida City Centre metro station would be pressed into action to ferry the spectators to the venue.

An additional 200 chartered buses can be availed as 'park and ride' facility from the nearby Knowledge Park II, he said.

Regarding the flow of logistics to the venue, assistant general manager cargo and logistics JPSI, Sougoto Das said some of the equipment has already started to reach the venue.

"The movement of cargo has been smooth. The F1 cargo comes in two lots, one by ship and the other by air. The ship cargo has started coming here such as tyres, car fuel, etc. However, cars will start coming after the Korean GP this weekend," he said.

Arrest warrant out for F1 team boss

Force India's billionaire team owner Vijay Mallya has had an arrest warrant issued against him by the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, according to reports.
The warrant, which is non-bailable, relates to bounced cheques Mallya's Kingfisher airline issued to the operator of Hyderabad International Airport.

The cheques, for a reported $2million, were meant to settle user fees at the airport.

"The cases were listed today for the airline to appear in the court," a spokesman for the complainant is quoted as saying by AFP.

"Since they failed to appear before the magistrate, the court has ordered issuance of NBW (non-bailable warrants) against Kingfisher Airlines (KFA), Vijay Mallya and four other KFA officials."

The arrest warrant is the latest in a string of financial setbacks for Kingfisher, which is reported to have debts in the billions.

The airline has failed to generate a profit since its launch in 2005. It has grounded its fleet for the past two weeks.

AFP added that Hyderabad police chief Anurag Sharma had not yet received the warrant.
