what we are doing is "wait and see" goddamn same strategy over for 40 years. us-mexsico border is good example. first we have to secure and protect our borders! 20+ ucav 50+ t129 and guided missiles. and 20K+ active troops inside our borders. for outside borders, Hale Class Uavs. And killer drones. No need to risk t129 there..
AND for the mountains. Use chemical weapons. No one will camp or picnic there.
In my opinion the entire issue is not about using the sufficient equipment or elite training we have to offer. I think it's just all about culture and the rational decisions we take. Basic Economics is one example. It assumes that any decision given by any party is rational. In this case do you find it rational to not have a proven UCAV platform or T-129B in enough numbers in inventory by 2016 where our soldiers take step at many hot zones? You see it all ends up here:
My point is, the issue is rather deeply rooted into our culture and the way we approach to security on all aspects (personal, national, corporate, civil, cyber, network...etc), it's the awareness we should have decades ago and the critical thinking in security. Take ourselves for example;
• What's the level of security of the passport of your personal computer/wifi network at home and office/safe? Answer: Check google for how passports should be then you'll see.
• Do our men even properly wear their tactical vests? Answer: Most of them don't, their upper chest is open usually. Polis Özel Harekat, they wear balaklavas but not ballistic helmets? There is a reason the state spends money on these operators such as taking above normal weight on themselves when fighting.
• There still in the 21st Century, newly assembled cars in Turkey come up with a seatbelt warning alerts. Even some cars stop working their engine after the driver exceeds 200m without having his seatbelt on. But go and see a bazaar you'll see plenty of mechanisms for sale to avoid these alerts.
• It's been nearly 45 years since the PKK terrör has started. Please include the US invasion of Iraq, Iran-Iraqi War, Syrian Civil War into your mind. What do we see? After all these storm yet we manage to decide to build a concentrate wall only at some part of the southeastern border, at 2015-2016.
This list goes on and on. We can supply our forces with as much as quality equipment they want. But the only solution is to have that general security awareness indoctrinated into our children, at school and home. Teaching personnel professionally on Personnel/Operational Security issues and handling specialists dedicated for this job. Passing judicial reforms for harsher penalties for basic security breaches such as seatbelt to inject the security perspective into our people's brain. Then we might be serious about anything related to our defense.
