The Economist: Bangladesh’s GDP per capita now higher than Pakistan’s

If what you say is true and there are many more such as your uncle, your consumption of materials like cement, power, cars, motorcycles, steel, health etc should be off the charts. But compared to other south asian economies, you still lack in all those parameters. So they may be not paying taxes but they are not spending it as well or just may be you are extrapolating way more than what it is.

Not exactly...rudimentary knowledge about Pakistan...

-Pakistan produced about 24 lacs motorcycles last, 2016-17 financial year(2.4 million) all local made with 95% localization and with 100% localization in some brands.

-Similarly car sales in Pakistan is about 260,000-280,000 per year, In B'desh it is about 23,000 or close, just 10% of sales in Pakistan with a population of 170 million compared to 207 million for Pakistan, check the percentile. Also about 70% deletion(local parts) in most of the cars produced locally. Check Pak car vendor industry....

-Steel production/consumption in Pakistan is 10 million metric tons, check the Indian and B'desh figures, in percentile w.r.t population,

Cement per capita consumption is now higher than India in Pakistan...

http://www.globalcement.com/news/item/3426-mi-cement-to-add-new-unit-soon

Pakistan per capita cement consumption is 170 kg where as India's 225kg

Old data, cement industry in Pakistan has invested 2.25 billion USD in expansion recently and there is huge consumption surge...11 new big cements plants into operation recently.

Pakistan is exporting cement to India and is growing...

You seem to switch between India and Bangladesh wherever you seem better.

Cars, motorcycles, power etc., India will beat you hands down. Steel production in India is close to 100 million tonnes, i'll let you calculate the ratio based on our population.

So many aspects you are below or just about India belying the fact that somehow your illicit economy is the silver bullet that doesn't get counted.

Regarding cement, here is the latest production graph by statista

Electricity connection by Country:
Pakistan : 97.5%
India : 79.2%
Bangladesh : 62.4%

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/EG.ELC.ACCS.ZS

Electricity connection is only one measure but how efficient is the power supply? How many hours of load shedding happens in each of these countries. India's installed capacity is 330000 MW, Pakistan's less than 30000 Mw. So 11 times yours covering only 4/5ths of the population. GOI is in overdrive to extend the last mile connectivity. By 2020, we would have covered entire India.

You said south Asia, that's why I am comparing India Pakistan and B'desh...In car sales B'desh is in no competition with Pakistan, India is slightly ahead with sales in percentile w.r.t Pakistan, India population is 6.5 times that of Pakistan...and car sales is about 10 times, yes India is ahead here.

What are the motorcycles sales in India(not total production) if looking into the per capita usage. In Pakistan it was 2.4 million(not the imported ones), in India to the best of my knowledge it was around 15-16 million local sales...that is about 7 times more than Pakistan...fair enough.

Thats guy turned from South asia to India vs Pakistan. I replied bec he claimed Pakistan consumption is way low as compare to other South asian countries.

Dude, Something is always better than nothing. Quarter billion of Indians, 1/3rd of Bdsians are not even connected to power grids and you are talking about interupted power supply in Pak? Guys like you mock Pakistanis for load shedding while completely forgetting about problems in your own countries. As for 2020, well, when the time comes we shall see.

Anyway, thread was about PK/BD, why poke your nose into it?

Next time, look into the context of the post. I quoted someone claiming that most Pakistanis are rich, they just avoid paying taxes so they won't be in formal economy. I replied if that is so, formal or informal, consumption levels in Pakistan should be off the charts but isn't so even when compared to India per capita wise.

So don't reply when its not you i quoted unless you understand the context.

there is no load-shedding in India

When A Power Cut Was Perfectly Timed For Power Minister Piyush Goyal

Power Minister Piyush Goyal addressing media in Varanasi during a power cut

VARANASI:
HIGHLIGHTS
  1. Power went off in Varanasi while Piyush Goyal was addressing media
  2. The minister tweeted images of his press conference in the dark
  3. He was talking about alleged discrimination in power distribution in UP

Power Minister Piyush Goyal was speaking to the media in Varanasi yesterday when the lights went off. The minister was laboring his point on politics over electricity distribution in Uttar Pradesh, which has been a recurrent theme in the campaign for the state election.

He later tweeted images of his press conference in the dark and took a dig at Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who had rubbished allegations of unequal power supply in UP and challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "swear on Ganga maiyaa (mother Ganges)" that Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, did not have uninterrupted power.

"I swear on Ganga maiyyaa, today the power cut during the press meet exposed the hollow claims of the Samajwadi Party government," tweeted Mr Goyal, also posting a link to his press conference at a BJP office in Varanasi's Ghosabad.

When reporters confronted him about the irony of a power cut during the Power Minister's event, Mr Goyal declared, "I am not worried about myself...I am worried about students who suffer from power cuts in their school or college...I am worried about the patient or the doctor who is probably in surgery, I am worried about farmers..."

Akhilesh Yadav, he added, should be asked why like Saifai, the home turf of the Yadav family in UP, other areas are also not entitled to power "without religious or caste divides".

The last time Mr Goyal faced such a situation was at Shastri Bhawan in Delhi in May, when he was addressing the media on his ministry's work and achievements. The minister smiled through the incessant outages and finally attempted a joke: "My wife says there should be power cuts in all my programmes so I can be sure that there are miles to go..."

This time, however, he seized the chance to drive home his point about religious and other discrimination in power supply on Akhilesh Yadav's watch, a charge that PM Modi had first raised while campaigning earlier this month. "It's not an empty political charge. It's a proven fact," Mr Goyal said.

Dumb Indians let me make it bold for you. What you wrote exactly....

here you go...our erstwhile NEDian R.Haq has enough data and statistics to quash and rubbish any false claim by our good neighbor...

P.S car sales has only increased in India in recent years due to higher production vis a vis Pakistan, and with a population of 1.35 billion it will take some years and some doing to move much ahead of Pakistan in per capita usage...BTW car production in Pakistan is increasing substantially in two years with 4-5 new car makers entering Pakistan and has started establishing their production units.

You do realise that Pakistan had massive advantage over India and BD due to cumulative wealth, in that it has till only recently had higher GDP per capita than both India and BD? Both India and BD are growing their GDP per capita twice as fast as Pakistan and so they will catch up and overtake Pakistan by a wide margin by 2030.

And what was the reason for that cumulative wealth, Pakistan had no industry in 1947, only one textile mill or some redundant cottage industry at that point in time.

Yes that's right...B'desh and India growth is impressive...Pakistan is now coming to term with higher growth curve after a long hiatus with WOT and what not.

Both India and BD are growing their GDP per capita twice as fast as Pakistan and so they will catch up and overtake Pakistan by a wide margin by 2030.

Pakistan GDP growth rate last year was 5.28 and for this financial year the projected rate is 5.85, India GDP has declined this year to 6.7%, Bangladesh was around 7.1% this financial year, slightly lower last year...so it was not twice the GDP growth rate of Pakistan.

Projected growth rate for Pakistan was much higher in coming years due to a number of reasons, improved power supply, 11,000 MW's just added, better infra/roads, rails...and yes CPEC...

1. During 1947-1971, Pakistan used BD as a cash cow. Pakistan's economy was never the same after 1971 for a good reason.
2. I was talking about GDP per capita and not GDP - it is not the same thing. Pakistan is growing it's GDP capita at 3% a year, compared to 6 % for both India and BD. This is 3% GDP per capita growth with CPEC in full swing.
