Man, you really don't understand modern China. It's as if the last few decades never happened for you.

Yes there are "junkets" (I actually had to check the dictionary to see what that meant), and yes the Chinese government needs to keep public perception positive on a lot of issues. But the thing is, CPEC is very VERY far down on the list of issues.

People always assume the Chinese Government is obsessed with a bunch of foreign issues, it's simply not the case. The focus is almost entirely domestic, with things like corruption and inflation topping the actual list of concerns.
