What has always intrigued me is how Caucasus, a region literally in Asia that for most of history was entirely isolated from Europe for centuries was a Persian region and later Turkic has been hijacked by Europeans? Caucasus is literally few yards from Tehran but million miles from Europe. I think people lost count when it comes to Russian genocides against various ethnic groups. The vast majority of the Circassians fled to Turkey and there are a lot of them in my hometown. Whenever people learn about my hometown in Turkey, the first thing they will ask you is whether I am Circassian or not. That's how many people migrated.
