A self-proclaimed defector from Pakistan's nuclear weapons program is not a scientist at all, but a low-paid accountant for a company that makes bathroom tiles, a director of the company said yesterday.

Iftikhar Khan Chaudhry, who is seeking asylum in the United States, told a number of reporters on Wednesday that he had been at an April meeting -- weeks before India and Pakistan set off dueling nuclear tests -- at which Pakistani military leaders had decided to launch a pre-emptive nuclear attack against New Delhi within 48 hours.

Mr. Khan, at a series of news conferences at the office of his lawyer, Michael J. Wildes, said he was ready to provide the United States with sensitive, secret information about Pakistan's nuclear weapons program, including details about the presence of Chinese and Iranian scientists.

But Azad Gulzar Sheikh, a director of the Forte Trading Company, told Pakistan state television in Islamabad and other Pakistani news agencies that until last fall Mr. Khan had worked as an assistant accountant for his company, which makes ceramic tiles and bathroom fixtures.

Barring the locations of the warheads, there is little damage any 'defecting scientist', even an actual one, could do.

And outside of the top military leadership, no one individual probably has access to information about ALL the locations.

Well actually, if the accounts in the Western Media are true, AQ Khan is the 'biggest traitor' since he is the one going around allegedly spewing secret information about the Pakistani nuclear program and how the black market network functioned.

so as per the above statement the Black Market should be kept as a secret and not to be exposed. Buddy these kinds of Black Markets will sell N Weapons to any one in the world and it might end up getting blown any where, so there is a posibilty that it might blow up under Pakistan's nose too. Black Markets for weapons sale should be busted and the fellow who runs it should not be put behind bars but should be tortured to death.

AQ Khan has MANY times on TV said that he went "around" under military orders... & gave N-korea & Iran contacts of contractors, NOThing else ... (u can search his interviews & go thru them)

& also, seriously, use common sense, a HIGHLY-gaurded program of military-purpose & it's TOP-ranked person would be able to go "around" like that without Army having any knowledge of what he was doing... This doesn't even happen in fictional comic-story books where humans can fly in the air & punch a hole in buildings with their fist...

& the word "western-media" says it all,,, too,,,

& how in the world helping friendly countries is being a "TRAITOR"....

traitor is one who allows enemy of Pak to roam around freely uninterupted inside Pak & as a result thousands of innocent civilians have died & many Army men too, one who pardons criminals with NRO & allows them to rule Pak, one who in 8 years of KINGSHIP couldn't build a Dam, one who ran away from his beloved "Sab-Say-Pehlay-Pakistan" country, one who lied to public when he said there was enough evidence against OBL, one who abducted many Pakistanis & they r still missing, & many more in case u missed them...

In his book of self grandeur "the line of fire" he gave away sensitive information pertaining to the advancement and progress of pakistans nuclear deterrent, many at the time including retired military officers where calling him to be tried for high treason.

Lowly accountant? Pakistani accountants would say there is no such thing as a lowly accountant. They carry such an air of self important that it will surely offend them. This reality reflects the state of this country. A person who acquires the trivial knowledge of accountancy envisions himself on the highest rungs of the education ladder. As they say 'in the country of blinds the one eyed man is the king.'
