Ten Reasons Why Nepal ShouldJoin India

It is this kind of mentality of Indians that makes Nepal perceive India as a THREAT to its sovereignty.

If only you didn't get carried away and even knew the first thing about this topic. But who can expect any different?

Nepal's king had made overtures personally with Nehru about a confederation between both nations at our independence. Nehru turned it down because he felt the world would see it as 'Indian imperialism' despite both parties being willing to enter such arrangement. It seems even though we did not, people like you still harbour ill feeling, whereas the 1950 treaty between our countries established relations that were amongst the closest between any states.

There is for all purposes only a symbolic border where citizens of Nepal and India can travel without passports, live in the other country whilst availing of benefits as if they were citizens, be it education, health, government or any other jobs, and purchase any property without restriction. The general of IA is occasionally made COAS in Nepal and vice versa, as an honorary gesture. Until recently it was the only Hindu kingdom in the world where state religion was that of the majority. Not even western European nations, where some resemblance of free movement exists, can claim such an interwoven relationship in terms of history, culture, ethnicity, etc.

But I agree, since the freedom fighting generation started to pass away in India, younger leaders who took the helm began to treat Nepal as any large-small power relation, and their confidence began to wane as they looked to the Chinese out of desperation. This was but one of the many foreign policy blunders in our recent history, but nothing beyond repair. Just a few thoughtful policy measures are required to regain their trust and confidence, in true spirit of the open border we have always enjoyed.

National identity is not an economic leasing of land, sir. It's very serious and much more intangible. It's a more serious issue than the poster has made it with listing 10 points. Any self-respecting nation would never merge with another nation. Internationally Nepal serves a very important function which can be enhanced and that's to act as a buffer between China and India.

whatever may be the reason.. they hate us inspite of everything we claim to have common with them. This talk of making it part of India is part of that narrative which makes them hate us.
And no, new delhi is not that innocent, we do bully nepal/bhutan/maldives/bangladesh.

If Nepalese wants to join Indian Union, that is good for India. If they don't want to join than also it is fine. However, with Indian economy growing, Nepalese may find full integration with India a win-win situation for the both countries. Anyway, for all practical purpose Nepal is partially integrated.

why is there no theft in Nepal. because everyone is a gurkha

why would india want to take a country over into its fold? too complicated. I think let it be. just chase out pakistan from Kashmir and GB and we should be ok

We are talking about
countries not Sholay type band of four boys, dying for each other.
only 2 boys in sholay. jai and veeru

Reason 11. Nepalese politicians will have a larger pie to steal from and take lessons from the indians

Yes, we are going to first retrieve Nawab Sirajuddawla's kingdom, and then the empire of Sher Shah Suri. That would bring peace and prosperity to SA. Hindus being unaccustomed to rule have made a mess of the subcontinent.
Sorry, get used to democracy. We understand rezakars like you have problems with that.

But we tend to hang terrorists in our nation. And Bangladesh will soon be a part of it. You better learn to run or hide ;)

Leaving nationalism aside, not only Nepal, it would make sense for all of the little countries such as Nepal, Bhutan and Banglades to join India.

Pakistan can't join India because of the historic rivalry, but with the recent killing of shias, it would certainly do better with Indian model of governance, tolerance and secularism.

well then.. the idea that nepal being part of India so that we will have more gorkhas... does sound pathetic right.. no self respecting indian would think that way..

We already have a large percentage of Gorkha's in North Bengal and beyond, and they don't pose any risk for the demography like illegal Bangladeshis. One way or another, most of them will eventually come to India in search of employment.

Not Bangladesh, please.

Completely wrong, The Nawabs and emperors who ruled Sub continent may have been Muslims but are in a different league compared to today's Raz-akars and self styled Nawabs we see today.

You need intellect and vision to rule and Govern and going by the stupid rants these people will never be qualified as rulers.

If you think about it strategically, it would increase communication and link between western india and Eastmost part and perhaps lead to more development of Eastmost India and bangladesh too. Bangladesh seems to be a thorn in the path at the moment.

That communication gap will get nullified if Nepal and Bhutan joins India. And Bangladesh will stay as an irrelevant entity in a corner of the world.
