Tejas is tested with new features and improved engine

Those who keep on harping about Tejas timelines have no understanding how long it takes to build bases for technology and where it takes once the base and infrastructure is ready.

Just to give an easy comparision, before Maruti happened in India for decades we had Ambassador and FIATs then for another decade or two it was Maruti entry level 800/Alto etc...But see today, how big the automobile sector has become.

Same is the case with Tejas, it might not be the best of the best, but the entire process has built the base to think about new levels and have capabilities to build things for which we were dependents upon others. May be a decade or two more to see a big industrial base for Aero projects.

Pardon, but either I misread yoour post or you use some sort of mathematics I don't understand. How could a fighter, which is often rated overweighted have an exceptionally high T/W due to a dry thrust of merely 58kN???

That's a joke? Isn't it??

It was termed overweight because it's weight exceeded design weight. Inspite of that, it is lightest fighter of the world with very high T/W ratio. It is all set to loose few hundred kilograms of weight. if dry thrust is increased few KN , its T/W ratio will rise further.

You are correct only engine GE404 is American, Radar is Israeli, Missiles are Russian & Israelis And many more small parts imported .... yet it is indian made .. come on man .. this thing has been discussed many time in many threads lets go..... get back to work :enjoy:

It is our design oor own radar with Israeli computer. it has our own electronics, EW and mission computer and HUD. Our own AESA is under testing which will be operational next year. It has perform much better than Israeli Asa radar. We are working on engine too.

People declare aircraft their own which is only painted by them.

I don't think it matters how much of the fighter is truly indigenous and how much isn't. If the tech can be produced at home at a reasonable price than it's great.

Neither India nor Pakistan are at that point where they can claim to be competitive on the international stage in the weapons market based solely on truly indigenous r&d.

Anyways, my genuine question, what's the status of the Tejas project? How many are in active service and where are they deployed?

How many are planned to be manufactured at this point?
one Squadron deployed . 40 Tejas mk1 + 83 Tejas mk1 a are in order 200 mwf will be purchased.

Breaking:Tejas is tested for STR of 18*+. This gives Tejas a timing of less than 20 Second for sustained turn rate equal to Gripen E.

obsession about Indian LCA Tejas for AL Bhakistanies seems to be going strong it seems as they are still to obsesssed and petrified by it :D :haha:

point is it was orignally concieved as an idea in 1983 to replace Mig21

first concept was floaded in 1991 but no money relased till 1993 for design rather 1997-98 and first prototype flew only in 2001 and IOC in 2015 and FOC in 2018 and even after 4200+ flying hours of flight testing no ariel mishaps there are no problems in any of the 18 flight testing protortypes in 4 different prototypes but still AL Bhakistanies are mocking LCA when they are using a chinese made but pakistani assembelled with a

russian ingined copy of Mig33(single engined Mig29 whose technology was sold to romania which was later resold to china which with help of ukranian engineers and mig29s RD93 engine and stolen US DSI made JF17 )

so dear LCA even in MK1 IOC/FOC format has 1.1 Thrust to wieght ratio
HOBS(Dash3 HMDS-HUD) & EL/M2032 MMR radar & Python5 & Derby-I Derby ER combo
LIETNING3G3 LD POD and all kinds of Paveway & Griffin class LGBs *& PGMs firing capability
on board oxygen making system & inflight refulig probe & Quartz Nose cone
and body made with45%& skin made with 99% carbon composites with qudrapell DIGITAL FBY & controls

all capabilities JF17 dose not even has in its BLK II version and wants to have in its BLK III version by 2020 :sarcastic: :drag:

as for the new version of LCA bieng tested in Pokhran well looks like IAF & MOD is in hurry to put in on the production line by as early as starting of next financial year as it has already been testing two prototypes for almost couple of weeks and had send for mor then couple of improvements overall so the so called new block is going to be owt soonar than thought

So when will this paper tiger tejas with HOBS,EL/M2032,Lightning pod and all the other goodies will fly???

looks like you dont read news

there is already IAF Squad #45 @ Flying Daggers with 16 LCA Mk1 IOC already moved near India Pakistan Border

while second one Flying Aces in under construction with 18 more LCA MK1 FOC at Sulur TN while rest 6 will be twin seeter trainer variants


after that 83 MK1A with 550Kg less wieght but better aerodynamik Profile & ELTA2052 AESA Radar & Forward looking IRST sensor and 98 Kn GE414 engine on order (india has already purchased 99 GE414 engines from USA)

this order well might be repeated or maybe 110 LCA MK2 fighters after it
