It is now 11 years of war in Afghanistan, nothing achieved but only human loss of life. NATO is confined to garrisons only in few big cities. Dragging Bangladesh like India into this war and capitalizing anti Pakistani sentiments would only hurt the peace. People should research about Subic Bay's facilities where Bangladeshis and Indians are being trained to become part of notorious Blackwater Xe private Army.

@Blaster is perhaps asking BD troops to try Gandhian approach in Afghanistan. How? When Taliban attacks, BD troops throw away their guns, move towards the Taliban with tears in eyes expecting the Talibans also to throw their rifles as a reciprocal gesture.
However, since Afghans appreciate bravery even from their enemy and hate people who do not fight and die like true Muslims, they will see BD troops as worthless human beings. So, they will capture these cowards and kill them.
This is how Gandhian trick will fail in Afghanistan. So, instead of trying with BD troops, @Blaster should ask his govt to send some of its own troops to Afghanistan. For us, the Gandhian prescription is not suitable. We are a fighting people, we die while fighting.
I have not found the name of Bangladesh in the Xe training, but has found the name of Nepal and india, though. This is but a private training center and mercenaries, who want to earn easy money, go from there to mostly Iraq.
On the other hand, Govt of Bangladesh has the sole authority on its troops. They are not mercenaries. These troops will only go when the country orders them to go. But, I hope, the GoB will not send them to Afghanistan to fight under the present NATO command.

I have a few questions for Bdeshi members,
How will Bangladesh's economy benefit from this war?
How will your people benefit from this war?
What will you gain and lose if you involved yourselves in this war?
If the Big and powerful Nations want to get their foot out of the trap, why are Bdeshi's so eager to put their foot in that same trap?

I do not think an economically weak Bangladesh can bear the cost of such a war in Afghanista. I expect western powers to bear the cost. However, if finally BD is forced to send a few thousands of its troops, then I would like BD to demand and get at least five squadrons of F-18 Hornets from Uncle Sam.
Other economic benefits may be a bigger market of our goods in the west. It may also be a false expectation. However, I do not like our troops to go to Afghanistan to kill other Muslims or any one else, whatever may be the pretext of those killings. It is better we live in poverty, rather than killing our own.

exactly what i mean bro! Its better to avoid a conflict, especially when you don't know who's wrong or who's right! Let the US and NATO fight their war on their own.
regarding F-18's, i don't think that would be a good choice because that will make your airforce dependent on US for spare parts!

Tiger Shark-3 occurred the next month and this time was multi-service on the Bangladeshi side, with army, navy, air force and coast guard units training with the U.S. to "enhance interoperability between the militaries of the two countries" in exercises that included "combat diving, infiltration and ex-filtration techniques, rappelling, helicopters operations, vessel boarding search and seizure, small boat maintenance and repair, maritime navigation, small unit tactics and small boat handling and tactics."

Wow, i never thought it went as far as this! Risky move if indeed your gov has accepted to send its troops to Afghanistan and that to under NATO's command which will make things worse! If the Bdeshi army gets deployed in Afghanistan and that too under NATO then all i can say is that is disappointing indeed, especially when considering the fact the Bdesh itself fought for independence against occupation but now today its participating in the occupation of another country
It would have been smart if GoB didn't go through with this deal with the US, at lease they should have known the History of Afghanistan before making this decision, Afghan Pashtuns won't welcome your army there, trust me bro when you go into Afghanistan with the intent of staying there against the will of the Afghan then Islam and brotherhood no longer matters, the Arabs learned that when they tried to occupy Afghanistan a few centuries ago. If Americans and NATO with their advanced weapons and training can't defeat the Afghans for almost 10 years, then how can Bdesh with a few months of training defeat Taliban?
@SilentNinja, please read also the detail news about the joint BD-US training only last month called Operation Tiger Shark-4. The question is why USA has been spending millions of dollars in many such joint exercises with BD during the last two years?
And even before this Tiger Shark-4 was concluded, there started another joint exercise, too. It is named as 'Ex-cope South-2010.' There is a thread already with this name. You may see it. So, it seems US is giving us these trainings, not out of love, but out of an unwritten understanding with GoB which is now about to be unfurled.

YOu should not think that those training are only aimed for Afhganistan. There are plenty of other places where BD could be a big hand for America. So training will continue regardless of BD deciding to join Afhganistan or not.

What would be the benefit of send troops there. Bangla should focus on developing Bangladesh. Not fight the Taliban. Or be like security and let the heavy infantry handle the big mess.

Bangladesh has made it clear it will not send its troops to Afghanistan while refuting reports that the US had requested the country to contribute soldiers to the war-torn nation.
"Bangladesh will not send soldiers to Afghanistan," Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told a meeting of ruling Awami League's advisory council late on Saturday, according to the 'Samakal' newspaper.
Quoting insiders, the newspaper said, Hasina conveyed her government's "precise stand" on sending soldiers to Afghanistan as several members of the council, comprising senior party leaders, opposed the idea of sending combat forces to the war-ravaged nation citing "public sentiments".
Prime Minister's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad could not immediately confirm the premier's comments but the 'Prothom Alo' newspaper supplemented the Samakal report, saying Hasina agreed with the advisory as they said Bangladeshis had a reservation regarding the US military intervention in Afghanistan.
