Tk 30bn for Padma bridge in Tk 550bn ADP

Dhaka, May 19 (bdnews24.com)The National Economic Council (NEC) on Saturday approved Tk 550-billion Annual Development Porgramme (ADP) for 2012-13 fiscal, setting aside Tk 3,000 crore for the Padma bridge project.
The final endorsement by the NEC, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, entailed Tk 700 crorein additional funds to the Planning Commission's proposal. "The allocation was increased as the demand grew," Planning Secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam told journalists.
A total of 1,037 projects, including 1,002 from the revised ADP for the current fiscal, have been undertaken under the new ADP. Foreign aid worth Tk 2,150 crore has been targeted for implementation of schemes.
The new ADP has been allotted Tk 9,000 crore more than the ADP proposed for the current fiscal and Tk 14,000 crore more than the revised one. The ADP for the current fiscal was allotted Tk 46,000 crore nd revised down to Tk 41,000 crore in April 1.
Shafiqul Islam said the Tk 700 crore addition was allotted to develop agriculture, communications and local government sectors.
The approved ADP has 61 percent domestic assets while the rest will come from foreign sources.
Like the ADP for the current fiscal, power sector has been allotted most money for the upcoming fiscal. The allocation for the sector is Tk 911 crore, which is 14.57 percent of the total allocation and Tk 739 crore more than the allocation for the sector in the current fiscal.
The communication sector has been allotted Tk 776.8 crore or 14.3 percent, education and religion Tk 633.5 crore or 11.67 percent, rural development and organisations Tk 615.3 crore or 11.33 percent, infrastructure planning, water supply and housing Tk 533.6 crore or 9.83 percent, agriculture and water resources Tk 512.5 crore or 9.44 percent, and the health and nutrition sector has been allotted Tk 463.6 crore or 8.54 percent.
Finance Minister A M A Muhith, Planning Minister A K Khandker, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, other ministers, secretaries and top officials attended the meeting.
