The Gulfy's spent $250 billion into destabilizing the SyRaq, most of it channeled via Turkey as a conduit for the organizing/ training/ infiltration/ pay system for the CIA sponsored jihad. Basically they played a redux of the 80's Rambo sequence from Afghanistan.

However, Iran stood in the way and then we brought in Russia into this so the opposition doesn't get over excited and do something ridiculous. So far we have killed 600,000......mostly jihadists infiltrated from Turkey.

Why is Turkey doing all the heavy lifting only among the Sunni states.

Don't the Saudis have as potent a force projection into the area?

Or are they not bothered and too remote and letting Israel do the heavy lifting in Iraq?

KSA doesn't share a land border with Syria or have Kurds, so a land invasion isn't feasible for them. Instead they heavily funded and armed the jihadist islamic militants to overthrow the government, but that failed and even the US told them off after some of the groups they funded beheaded children, so now they are accepting defeat and recognising the syrian government again.

The blood letting was to secure a Syria for Syrians and to prevent the foreign jihadists from imposing their Wahhabi-Salafist designs on the secular Syria.

Kurds in Syria can get more autonomy and live in relative freedom, but they have to give up arms and give up independence.

They are advancing with Syrian forces now.

Maybe a detente has been negotiated.
