First of all, the question in the first place was "Why does Turkey need GERMANY to upgrade their tanks if they want self sufficiency", so you completely ignored "Germany" and "self sufficiency" in my question.

Second of all, "Turkey seeks the upgrade because these are good tanks" isn't an answer, even to the question that wasn't asked in the first place, that you invented. The answer is dead simple. Turkey bought the tanks at a time when they needed them. This has absolute zero relevance with starting an indigenous tank project. Clearly, the blackmail move by the Germans will now wake up the Turks and motivate them to opt for an indigenous project. It should have long ago, but it is never too late. Turks belonging to all segments of society are now realizing that Western support for the Kurds is aimed at their territorial integrity. The West is arming and training the Kurds to wreak havoc in the region.

Remember.. without European tech transfer not Altay, T129 or any other project would be possible. Personally I don’t know how we are going to fix and find an engine. Making the Engine in itself is not a problem if you have the industrial web behind you, like is the case with Turkey...
The problem is how long and how much will it cost to make one...
Turkey need that Engine, fast... that's why they searched for External partnership... to make it quicker for her needs...

I can say soon. I am sure that we had bought already IrionFist if the relations between our two States were better. There is for sure a reason that NL prefered Iron Fist to German ADS. Afaik Zaslon - L is only integrated in M60-T (Sabra) . Most tankers appreciate the easy use systems of the M series. L-series tanks are much more complicated, maybe that this was the reason to adopt ADS system. But this is only my personal speculation.Last, it is an urgent gap filler solution.

No german interference no crying in front of cameras for votes, just a triggered german media and lefties "politicans".
