The Taleban have not yet heeded calls to disarm

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Swat's Taleban expand operations

---------------------------------------------------------------

Taleban militants operating in Pakistan's Swat region who agreed a peace deal with the government have expanded operations into nearby Buner.

Dozens of militants have been streaming into bordering Buner to take over mosques and government offices.

Buner is part of the Malakand region, which has just seen the implementation of Sharia law under the peace deal.

But the Taleban have mainly operated in Swat, where they fought the army from August 2007 until this year's deal.

Under the deal the Taleban were expected to disarm.

Buner district is only about 100km (62 miles) from the capital, Islamabad.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, information minister for North West Frontier Province, said he had received reports of the Taleban expansion.

Recent reports said the Taleban had ransacked the offices of international aid and development agencies working in Buner.

Some employees of the agencies were also briefly taken hostage before being released on Monday.

Patrols

The Taleban have banned the playing of music in cars and are also using mosques to invite local youth to join them.

The Taleban have also started regular patrols in the district.

Buner's police chief, Rashid Khan, said the police had lodged an official complaint over the matter.

But the Taleban are not mentioned in the reports, which only names "unknown persons" as the culprits.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain maintains that the Taleban must disarm as agreed under the peace deal.

"Even Sufi Mohammad has said that there is no reason for the Taleban not to disarm," he said.

He was referring to the head of a local religious group who has been acting as the government's chief negotiator with the Taleban.

"We initially adopted the path of dialogue and reconciliation, but this is as far as we can go," Mr Hussain said.

"We implemented Sharia law as it was a demand of the people, not just the Taleban.

"If they continue with their activities, they will not have the support of the people.

"The majority of the people are now with the government. The government will not stand by and tolerate [the violation of] the peace deal."

The Taleban say they will not lay down their arms until Sharia is fully implemented.

Muslim Khan, a spokesman for the Swat Taleban, said his movement's aim was the enforcement of Sharia law in all of Pakistan.

And the second round begins ... *Sigh*

Any credible news about Pakistan Army resuming their operation any time soon? It's high time we confront this allergy with everything we've got.

As pathetic as it sounds can Army really operate against the will of the provincial and federal governments whilst they engage in dialogue with the militants?

This farce being played by ANP government to extend its political life needs to be stopped by the provincial and federal government in light of the reality of the crisis.
The fact that they have not yet taken action against the TTP highlights the fact that they lack the resolve to take on TTP and instead want ARMY to take the fall and be seen as US slave ARMY.

It is sorry to see that still these people want political mileage when the entire future of country is at stake, shows how averse to reality they have become!

TTP will never stop unless they are hammered back into oblivion by use of force.

Inaction or stalemate will only suit the TTP as is obvious with any guerilla movement, make the price of resistance high in terms of life and finances and these militants/terrorists will collapse, simple enough philosophy but no one seems willing to take action.

I can see military operation in Buner,Interior Minister hinted about it!

from buner they will move in batagram and manshera where they all reay hav a strong presence and once fighting starts there we can kiss the FANA good bye
cause all the army in FCNA is spported from KKH
and once KKH falls northern areas siachen kargil nelum bla bla bla all will fall

and from buner they will als move in to swabi
once they are in swabi they have taken motor way and gt road which connects punjab to nwfo
which means they have automatically taken over charassada mardan noshera and pehswar distt

this swat deal has screwed every thing
if things goes like they have been goning we can kiss all of nwfp fata and fana good bye
some thing needs to be done

if its like an operating that happened in swat then noo need of it wats the use of an operation which results in a loss
ppl of buner have fouhgt against taliban killed 37 of them in last 2 months
if now army moves in ppl are with them but then they terrorise family member of the ppl who fight
suside attacks in mosques schools gathering wedding killing childen of men who fight
the fght needs to happen in swat and a very very nasty one

plus we need to eliminate there leaders an there familes so the next leader who comes knows the conquences
but as long as we dont hit the funning and the nation who fund these guys this war will contine always

wat i am trying to say is that we should hit indain back for every terrorist they support in pakistan

terror can only be fought through terror

madrassas needs to end
funders need to bleed
for every one suside attack in pakistan indian politicans should pay
but thn we are a nation who is lead by coward leaders

I think the dialogue stopped with TTP when they started showing their true colours in SWAT and surrounding areas. The Government wouldn't acknowledge this but that's what they should have done. First SWAT and now Buner. No more dialogues and agreements!

How does this current Government plan to defend the capital IF (God forbid) this tumour keeps getting nourished? I've said this in another thread and I'll say it again, The Ideology and fundamentals behind the TTP are backed up by their weapons and fierce guerilla warfare tactics. You can't promote dialogue with a militant group that has already taken hundreds of lives of your countrymen and military personnel.

Annihilate the traitors or get ready for self destruction.

Bezerk,

There is no doubt that people like Muslim Khan, Fazlullah, Beitullah cannot be negotiated with.
They have been responsible for orcehstrating anti state agitation and are perpetrators of Terrorism.
What they have done deserves only one thing and even if they surrender or claim pardon (which they wont) they should be executed.
No pardon can be given to them under any circumstances, that is not an option!

Let it be clear that anyone who orchestrates such activities does so at the bane of their very life!
That is the most effective way of stopping their terrorist activities.
