This inter-faith dialouge and alliance of civilisations is the Indian muslim contribution to Islam and the world in general. IF this can be maintained and built on, then Indian muslims and India in general can possibly provide a link in helping to achive a resolution of the ME conflict. He said Israel “respects Islam and loves Muslims”.

“The Israeli-Palestinian problem is not a religious but a political issue. Jews and Muslims are children of Abraham. We are cousins,” Sofer said.

In return for his visit, the hereditary caretakers of Ajmer Sharif will go to Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa mosque, the third holiest place in Islam.

“Welcome to the real face of Islam,” senior hereditary khadim (caretaker), Syed Sarwar Chishty told Sofer, ushering him in.

Donning a skullcap, the diplomat replied: “We know bin Laden is not Islam.” After a guided tour, the top Israeli diplomat placed a chaddar at the shrine, and spent a few silent moments.

No that is not case, Indian muslims and majority of Indians support the just resolution of the conflict based on the two state solution. This position has been reiterated by none other than the GoI both by those led by the BJP or the Congress

This is a solution that is supported by Arabs led by the Saudis as well as Israel, the US, Russia and EU.

Israeli ambassador's comment are welcome and his statements particular on the irrelevance of extremism and terrorism with Islam is correct and something that many people in India should take to heart.

Lets not connect useless points together to malign Islam. Mughals were not the epitome of correct Islamic behavior. The Mughals fought and killed other Muslims too to ensure they retained power and all opposition was subjugated. Whether this opposition came from other Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs, their reaction was quite similar.

As to the forced conversions, Islam is quite clear about the rules. There is no compulsion in religion. When a territory was taken, the inhabitants were offered choices of either paying the tax, fighting or embracing the religion. If in certain cases Mughals did not adhere to these injunctions then I guess that is the point of my first paragraph.
Others, upon taking over subjugated tribes have done far worse. You can read up the counts of what Christian crusaders did or the treatment meted out to the Philistines by various Jewish kings. Hindu kings in their days had plenty of blue on blue as well.
