Sudan Acquires Russian-built Su-35 Fighter Jets

Congrats to Sudan , and hopefully they will retake their stolen Oil fields the revenue from oil field should be divided or given fully to Sudan it was theirs , as they invested in it
If you are talking about North Sudan (Muslim) who is the subject of this thread, they are already taking revenues from South Sudan's Oil fields in the South, this was an agreement without which South Sudan (Christian) could not split.. and it would have been war..

Some say around 30, but the last time there where news about signing the deal, there was talk about 12.. but no confirmation about the numbers yet..

Something smells a bit fishy about this news, brother. I'm HUGELY skeptical TBH. The talk in Egypt is that there was some interest by the Sudanese brass and they were thinking of initiating discussions with the Russians but nothing was officially signed, and that this "news" had originated by some lone, local media outlet. It also comes at a pivotal time with the tensions building up between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Renaissance dam, which makes it even more fishy.

It seems a lot more realistic that Algeria would get their Su-35s before anyone else in the MENA region. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

What's more disturbing to me is how these specific type of Russian deals tend to end up in the dark, or unclear and never really made in the official manner that almost all other deals are made. That tends to opens the door for so much speculation and false hype etc. And typically, with a big weapon system like this -- since the Su-35 is not some smaller weapon like the TOR/BUK or even the Iskander -- there's always much more information preceding any delivery.

good for them congs sudani air force

I understand what you are saying brother.. but this part of the article is intriguing:

"The fighters will be used to “contribute to the consolidation of Sudan’s defenses and provide it protection from any threat,” Sudanese deputy air force commander, Salahuddin Abdul Khaliq Saeed, told Sputnik News."

I don't think any Russian news agency will use officials of other countries names and statement for propaganda or false news.. I agree that it is a bit it too secretive for such a major deal, but still there is no smoke without fire..
Algerians always claim things coming to Egypt.. I still remember when the Mig-35 was announced for a North African country, the Algerians were adamant that it was for them !!!?
I wish them good, and think they can get a lot of the Russian and European best systems, but they are not in a rush to restructure their armed forces as Egypt or Sudan or in fact most Middle Eastern countries do, to replace the void left by the Iraqi, Syrian, Libyan and Yemeni armed forces..

There are rumours about 40 SU-35, plus another fighter plane type (or SU-30), plus combat helicopters! There is also the Mig-29 upgrade scheduled for 2018..

There is this too: It is much more than one source.. So let's wait and see what comes out of Bashir's visit to Moscow..

That explains their ridiculous reactions once it turned out to be for Egypt, if you know what I mean. :-)
They went way out of their way to prove that it isn't a MiG-35 lol. Imagine their reactions if Sudan gets the Su-35 before them!?

Cant be 30...after losing south sudan and sanctions and oil prices? no way.lol
"Losing" south sudan like you say... is in fact what make the north richer... the South sudan is one the poorer part of "Sudan" with millions and millions of poors ppl to sustain...
As for the Oil fiels in the south... well they are not rly in the south, but inbtw the two...and they are right now"pause" since both are "fighting" for it...

As for the 30...we do not knwo yet... could be less... and they mostly will use loans from RU... And don't forget that Sudan international sanctions are over...they are back in biz...

Which side of the divide does Sudan fall into regarding the dam, or has it maintained neutrality?

At first, Sudan objected to the dam and completely sided with Egypt, but since it has slowly backed away from partnering with Egypt because there are so many other issues that cause fluctuations in the relationship between the two and a lot of it has to do with south Sudan. Egypt's involvement in Eritrea and even south Sudan isn't making the north very happy and there are also many other little media wars that have created tensions between the two including import restrictions by the Sudanese government and other little squabbles. But for sure it has shifted from backing Egypt completely to somewhere in the middle, but many would say it is supporting Ethiopia and the dam.
