Western Marine Shipyard Limited (WMS) announced on Monday that it had won a deal to build two combat tank carriers (Landing Craft Tanks) for Bangladesh Army.
The deal was signed between Western Marine Group and Bangladesh Army at the office premises of DGDP (Directorate General Defence Purchase) on June 21, said a press release issued by WMS on Monday.
Under the deal the combat tank carriers (LCT) to be built at a cost of about Tk 77 crore, will be handed over to Bangladesh Army within next 22months.
WMS Managing Director Md Sakhawat Hossain and Colonel Chowdhury Fazleh Ali, Deputy Director Purchase (Army Wing-1), Ministry of Defence, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective enterprises.
Each vessel having a length of 68 Meter will carry eight combat tanks including of 40 officers and 200 troops.
Each of the LCT will have a helipad facility as well. These Ships will be made under the supervision of International Ship Builders Classification Society BUREAU VERITAS-France.
As a result, these ships will adopt International Standard on quality management system under the Flagship of Bangladesh which will be fully safe and environment-friendly, and which could move to the coastal area safely.
Senior official of both WMS services and the DGDP were present on deal signing ceremony.
WMS earlier has built this type of LCT for M/s Al Rashid Shipping, UAE, Dubai and are expected to hand over to the parties by this month. By completing this project WMS has reached a milestone on building modern shipbuilding in the country.

What is Indep Bdes. And how many active soldiers does a BD division consists.
Traditional bullcrap peoples war mindset is something we need to get out. We dont want a IS style war in our soil. We should focus something like S. Korean military.
True,in this age of high-tech warfare, people's army is not much relevant. It will only become relevant after the fall of the country at the hands of the enemy. Can we risk that?

Corvettes, frigates are all relative buddy. BNS Bangabandhu/ F 22 P type of vessel is a corvette for navies such as ours.

1.Obviously you don't know what is the Doctrine of Traditional People's War. Many nations like Indonesia, Iran, N Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, Yugoslavia under Tito and others have adopted this to keep much larger adversaries away.
2.The conventional forces will defend in the first phase as long as possible. Meanwhile guerilla / partisan groups get organized inside.various fighting groups.
3. Much like what happened during the '71 War, the conventional forces are for training, leadership and to provide the vital linkage among various fighting groups. This is a vast subject requiring a huge canvas not available here.
4. No nation should make the mistakes Pakistan has been committing. You fight to win, not to get a cease-fire under UNO. Unfortunately bureaucrats and mily leaders in nations like SA and elsewhere are taught only conventional fighting in senior officers courses / seminars hosted by arms exporting nations. In case of a total defeat by one nation, the arms peddlers will loose two customers. Nations must be prepared to fight on even after ammo, POL or spares have exhausted. As long as your Iman / will to fight is there, you can fight on like the Afghans.
5. ISIS stands for the Israeli Secret Intel Service, not relevant in this discussion.

@asad71 @Doyalbaba and others, do you know that Army Para-commando just formed a brigade and more are coming :D
Great.

If 2500 ton BNS Bangabandhu is corvette than what about Gepart 3.9 class(1500t) and Petya class(950t) frigate built by Russia?

Petyas were build several decades ago. You know, we never named them 'frigates', called them corvettes or submarine chasers instead.

now yours but used to be Frigate before for you, right ?

No they weren't. We don't call such lightly armed ships frigates anymore.

Russian war plane in Syria made all your analogies null and void.

Against Burma, BD can expect to win a high-tech war, but not with India. BD needs to wage a people's war against India if we lose a conventional war. Our ANSAR and VDP are not exactly what we may want them to be. Some people love to call them JOKES. However, these two groups are not something wasteful. In an emergency these two groups can be enlarged and trained that will become a People"s Army. But, only correct time will create such a force and today, it is only the frame of such a future force. We must note the two groups as well as BGB are controlled directly by the military. It has some meaning.

I would prefer quality over quantity any day of the year.
Having said that, I always thought 400k is an inflated figure. That figure must include reserves. I am willing to be proven wrong here though.
We should target to have 300k within the next decade, with a very modern and well-trained outfit. That along with good fighter planes coming in and the navy expanding at an unprecedented rate, our military would be a formidable force.

exact figure is way too high, btw Al Jazeera reported 300k+ few yours back ;)

"Soft power

Bangladesh does not have the military might that other countries have. But it does have an army of 300,000 in a poor and densely populated country accustomed to political instability and natural disasters. It knows how to handle conflict."
